Rock Store

I think that the XS11 get together at the Rock Store on May 16, 1999 worked out quite well. I rode there with my daughter Cathy. It was 20.17 miles from my house according to my BC800 computer (which I love.) We got there at 1:00 pm and met Dave who had already arrived with his Midnight Special. Then the rest started to arrive until we had a total of fourteen people with eleven XS Eleven bikes, how's that for a coincidence? The participants where:

Stan Strom        , 1980 Midnight Special
Scott                 , 1980 Midnight Special
Judson Crowder  , 1979 Standard
Andre Page        , 1979 Special
Rob Elliott          , ???? Special
Sam Maynard     , 1978 Special
Dave                  , 1981 Midnight Special
Jim Warren        , 1980 Special
Paul Harvey       , 1979 Standard
Gary LaPook      , 1980 Standard
Jay Kayak          , 1979 Standard

Also attending was Roger Garcia but his bike, a 1979 Standard, couldn't make it this time.  There were 11 riders, one daughter, one girl friend and one wife (with different riders, I think) for a total of 14 people.

When I arrived two spots opened up right in front of the Rock Store and Dave and I grabbed them. As bikes left we were able to expand our territory with other XS11s until we had 6 in the front row and 3 in the back row, 9 XS 11s in one place and Jim Warren's was parked down the way.  It started to look like Camp98.

We talked bikes and looked over each others bike for ideas on making improvements on our own. I really liked the looks of the Midnight Specials.

Rob Elliott and Jim Warren each drove up from San Diego, about 160 miles and took my advice of taking Latigo Canyon Road for the enjoyment of the twisties. After Rob had to leave Jay arrived from San Francisco claiming the record of coming the farthest, about 390 miles.

Here is  a picture of the Rock Store. The three guys in blue shirts are standing in front of the XS11s. Here is the cast of characters.  Judson standing in front of his bike (green jacket, baseball hat), Gary (in purple shirt) Sam in gray shirt, Rob next to Sam's left shoulder, Dave and Stan (I hope I've got the names right.)

Sorry it took so long to get this posted.

We will have to set up another get together in the LA area in the fall.
