TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, HE LIVED ALL ALONE, IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE, AND TO SEE JUST WHO IN THIS HOME DID LIVE. I LOOKED ALL ABOUT, A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE, NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS, NOT EVEN A TREE. NO STOCKING BY MANTLE, JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND, ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES OF FAR DISTANT LANDS. WITH MEDALS AND BADGES, AWARDS OF ALL KINDS, A SOBER THOUGHT CAME THROUGH MY MIND. FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT, IT WAS DARK AND DREARY, I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER, ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY. THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING, SILENT, ALONE, CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME. THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE, THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER, NOT HOW I PICTURED A UNITED STATES SOLDIER. WAS THIS THE HERO OF WHOM I'D JUST READ? CURLED UP ON A PONCHO, THE FLOOR FOR A BED? I REALIZED THE FAMILIES THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT, OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT. SOON ROUND THE WORLD, THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY, AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY. THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR, BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS, LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE. I COULDN'T HELP WONDER HOW MANY LAY ALONE, ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME. THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,I DROPPED TO MY KNEESAND STARTED TO CRY. THE SOLDIER AWAKENED AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE, "SANTA DON'T CRY, THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE; I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,I DON'T ASK FOR MORE, MY LIFE IS MY GOD, MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS." THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP, I COULDN'T CONTROL IT, I CONTINUED TO WEEP. I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,SO SILENT AND STILL AND WE BOTH SHIVERED FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL. I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT, THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR SO WILLING TO FIGHT. THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA, IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE." ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH, AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT. "MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND, AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT." This poem was written by a Marine stationedin OkinawaJapan. The following is his request. > PLEASE. Would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S. service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe.Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselvesfor us. Please, d your small part to plant this small seed.

JUDGE ME BY THE FOOTPRINTS I LEAVE BEHIND A story is told about a soldier who was finally coming home after having fought in Vietnam. He called his parents from San Francisco. "Mom and Dad,I'm coming home, but I've a favor to ask. I have a friend I'd like to bring home with me. Sure," they replied, "we'd love to meet him. There's something you should know," the son continued, "he was hurt pretty badly in the fighting. He stepped on a land mind and lost and arm and a leg. He has nowhere else to go, and I want him to come live with us. I'm sorry to hear that, son. Maybe we can help him find somewhere to live. No, Mom and Dad, I want him to live with us." Son," said the father, "you don't know what you're asking. Someone with such a handicap would be a terrible burden on us. We have our own lives to live, and we can't let something like this interfere with our lives. I think you should just come home and orget about this guy. He'll find a way to live on his own. At that point, the son hung up the phone. The parents heard nothing more from him. A few days later, however, they received a call from the San Francisco police. Their son had died after falling from a building, they were told. The police believed it was suicide. The grief-stricken parents flew to San Francisco and were taken to the city morgue to identify the body of their son. They ecognized him, but to their horror they also discovered something they didn't know, their son had only one arm and one leg. The parents in this story are like many of us. We find it easy to love those who are good-looking or fun to have around, but we don't like people who inconvenience us or make us feel uncomfortable. We would rather stay away from people who aren't as healt y, beautiful, or smart as we are.Thankfully, there's someone who won't treat us that way. Someone who loves us with an unconditional love that welcomes us into the forever family, regardless of how messed up we are. Tonight, before you tuck yourself in for the night, say a little prayer that God will give you the strength you need to accept people as they are, and to help us all be more understanding of those who are different from us!!!

KARON You are too kind..... What a great and beautiful site you have here. I was never any form of Hero. I was a soldier who was called and answered. The heroes are those we abandoned over there. The heroes are the men I see at the VA hospital without arms or legs, or minds. Many times I have been asked if I would go ag in if called. The answer is always the same, always yes. I could only hope that the next time we would be allowed to finish the job. Too many soldiers were wasted and sacrificed for a war our congress had not the fortitude to finish. Thanks again for the overly kind words, and even more thanks for your dedication and persistance in the MIA/POW issue. Frank Anton POW 68-73

To say that I enjoyed your site, I didn't! But you did an outstanding job! As I when through your pages some of the stories ripped my heart out. Your unselfishness and deep dedication, paid a very Honorable Tribute to our American Heroes. I believe there should be another wall, for serviceman that did make it back in the flesh, but never really came completely back. As our POW-MIA suffer on foreign soil, our Vets suffer in silent memories everyday, isn't that still being a POW. God Bless Y u and your family, and may you all come home with God's Speed!

"Butterfly Kisses" -- We often learn the most from our children. Some time ago, a friend of mine punished his 3-year-old daughter for wasting a roll of gold wrapping paper. Money was tight, and he became angry when the child tried to decorate a box to put under the Christmas Tree. Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift to her father the next morning and said, "This is for you, Daddy." Dad was embarrassed by his earlier overreaction, but his anger flared again when he found that the box was empty. He scolded his child, "D n't you know that when you give someone a present, there's supposed to be something inside of it?" The little girl looked up at him, tears in her eyes, and said, "Oh, Daddy it's not empty. I blew kisses into the box. All for you, Daddy." The father was rushed. He put his arms around his little girl, and he begged her forgiveness. My friend told me that he kept that gold box by his bed for years. Whenever he was discouraged, he would take out an imaginary kiss and remember the love of the child who had put it there. In a very real sense, each of us as parents have been given a gold container filled with unconditional love and kisses from our children. There is no more precious possession anyone could hold. Wishing you a Merry Christmas!

Sending you a thought or two to share. Ice-cream is Good For the Soul: Last week I took my children to a restaurant. My six-year-old son asked if he could say grace. As we bowed our heads he said, "God is good, God is great. Thank you for the food, and I would even thank you more if mom gets u ice cream for dessert. And Liberty and justice for all! Amen!" Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby I heard a woman remark, "That 's what's wrong with this country. Kids today don't even know how to pray. Asking God for ice-cream! Why, I never!" Hearing this my son burst into tears and asked me, "Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at me?" As I held him and assured him that he had done a terrific job and God was certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman approached the table. He winked at my son and said,"I happen to know that God thought that was a great prayer. "Really?" my son asked. "Cross my heart!" Then in a heatrical whisper he added (indicating the woman whose remark had started this whole thing) "Too bad she never asks God for ice cream. A little ice cream is good for the soul sometimes." Naturally, I bought my kids ice cream at the end of the meal. My son stared at his a moment and then did something I will remember the rest of my life. He picked up the sundae and without a word walked over and placed it in front of the woman. With a big smile, he told her, "Here, this is for you. Ice Cream is good for the soul sometimes, and my soul is good already." (Author Unknown)

When I first brought Darlene's story to the WWW it was intended to appeal to Someone/anyone that had information about Darlene's murder or her Killer(s). It was meant to be a project of good will and asking the world for a little help. The truth is confusing enough but names have been spoken and stories have been confused. Some were just rumors and never had a bit of truth. I could take the time to point out the mistakes in the story but the damage has been done. Is everyone that ever k ew Darlene to blame for her murder? No, no accusations were thrown but considering Darlene and I knew many people I wonder what gave us the honors of being written in a Story full of lies and posted for the world to see. Maybe they weren't meant to be lie . I hope that's the case but it doesn't matter its been said. With all the years that have passed my only hope was in getting someone to talk that had the information we needed. I thought that could be done with compassion and understanding. Maybe the person we needed to talk to did mess up, maybe they thought someo e did it but they were too scared to talk. Maybe, they didn't realize the importance of their information. We don't know and anyone that may have been thinking of calling or writing would only see the ignorance that is shown towards Darlene's friends. As long as her murder gets solved: it doesn't matter who gets hurt. If any information is out there and someone sees this I do hope they realize that not everyone wants to blame anyone except her true killers. We want justice for Darlene and I wish with my heart that it could have been done at no ones expense. Please call if you have information. Detective Richard Gysin with the Colorado Springs Detective Agency is working on her case and he would welcome any information you have. 1-719-444-7500. Your, honorable recognition: http://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/Quarters/4325/Darlene.html (No accusations or allegations of any person named above is intended. Rather, it is hoped that the information will act as a conduit by which the family and friends of Darlene may receive support and comfort while continuing to grieve their loss)). I am a friend of Darlene and I believe this kind of support and comfort is a disgrace. It is in my opinion that Honorable Recognition was not served. Carolyn

A True Story

A soldier was finally coming home after having fought in Vietnam.
He called his parents from San Francisco. "Mom and Dad, I'm coming home, but I've a favor to ask.  I'd like to bring a friend home with me."

"Sure" They replied. "We'd love to meet him."

"There is something you should know", the son continued. "He was hurt pretty badly in the fighting. He stepped on a land mine and lost an arm and leg. He has nowhere else to go, and I want him to come live with us."
"I'm sorry to hear that, son. Maybe we can help him find somewhere to live."

"No, Mom and Dad, I want him to live with us."

"Son," Said the father," You don't know what you are asking.  Someone with such a handicap would be a terrible burden to us. We have our own life to live and we can't let something like this interfere with our lives. I think you should just come home and forget about this guy. He'll find a way to live on his own. "

At that point, the son hung up the phone. The parents heard nothing more from him.  A few days later, however, they received a call from the San Francisco police. Their son had died after falling from a building. They were told. The police believed it was suicide.
The grief stricken parents flew to San Francisco and were taken to the city morgue to identify the body of their son. They recognized him, but to their horror they also discovered something they didn't know their son had only one arm and leg. He himself was the man he wanted to bring home to his Mom and Dad. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- We are so much like the parents in this story. We find it easy to love those who are good looking or fun to have around, but we don't like people who inconvenience us or make us feel uncomfortable, We would rather stay away from people who aren't healthy, beautiful, or smart as we are. We don't want the inconvience that true love brings into our lives. Jesus said depart from me ... and they replied Lord when did we not love you and help you? And Jesus said when you didn't do it for one of the least of these then you didn't do it to me. God comes in many disguises

The love of God is unconditional and welcomes us into his family forever, regardless of how messed up we are. Because of his great love for us, we are to reach out to others.

She told me about your website. It is very impressive. I, too, am a Christian & look forward to His return. I won't detain you, but I will ex mine your site. God bless you for your service to Him. Your brother in Christ, Ron

You're right! It's so much better in NetScape, and I thought it was good on Explorer. I am studying the material you shared, and will come up with some questions in awhile. I really like what you are doing, including the links. I looked at most of them. get back with you in awhile. Unc

Hi everybody, Just surfing through, served with the 25th.INF.DIV 1959-1960. Guess I was lucky, didn't have to serve during war time. Sure felt for the ones that did. A belated thanks to all Vets, peace time & war time servers. Edward L.Bower bowere@execpc.com

Soldiers are bloody killers who should be judged by a new Nurnberg trial for crime against humanity.
