Being an army cadet unit as well as a pipes and drums band means that 413 RCU must also perform many of the same tasks and undertake the same training as other army cadet units. Training includes:
  • Drill (marching) which relates heavily to the band
  • Annual Field Exercise-Annual Camp (watermanship courses, leadership training, abseiling/rock climbing, field skills and more) conducted at places like Cultana-El Alamein (near Port Augusta) and Murray Bridge.
  • Field training, putting up hootchies, survival skills, map reading, RATEL (radio procedures), first aid.
  • Weekend bivouacs to enhance bush skills conducted at Kiutpo Forrest, Mt Crawford Forrest, Berri, and Flinders Ranges.
  • Promotional training for the ranks of Lance Corporal, Corporal, Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, Warrant Officer class 2 (CSM), Warrant Officer class 1 (RSM) and Cadet Under Officer.
