In early 1996 413 RCU received Kilts of the Gordon Highlanders plaid. 413 RCU is privileged to wear the tartan of the Gordon Highlanders who were once called the greatest regiment in the world by Sir Winston Churchill.

The Gordon Highlanders origins lie in Scotland in 1794 when the regiment was raised by the Duke and Dutches of Gordon. The Gordon Highlander's were based in Aberdeen throughout their 200 year history in which they amassed an impressive list of battle honours including, Waterloo, Somme and many other famous battles. 19 Victoria crosses have been awarded to the Gordon Highlanders. One notable award being that of Piper Findlater at the battle of Dargai in India where he continued to play his pipes to encourage the men on despite being shot through both ankles.

In 1994 the Gordon Highlanders were disbanded ending their 200 years of tradition. Now the Gordon Highlanders only exist as a museum in Aberdeen, Scotland. They have a homepage at www.bynand.com
