413 Regional Cadet Unit was founded in 1995 to meet the need for a band for the Australian Army Cadet Corps within South Australia. 413 RCU was to be based at Keswick Barracks in Adelaide, South Australia with Captain S. Shorter as the first OC of 413 RCU. The first official parade was on Tuesday 31/01/1995. 5 cadets paraded that original night. The first headquarters of 413 RCU was a tiny office in the in a building that happened to be the original headquarters of the 27th South Australian Scottish Regiment.

The first Kilts worn by 413 RCU were on loan from Adelaide Universities Regiment (Napier Tartan) and Adelaide Highland Piped and Drums (McKenzie Tartan). The McKenzie kilts were worn by th413 RCU in the 1995 Adelaide Tattoo.

The Kilts now proudly worn by the 413 RCU are of the Gordon Highlanders plaid. 413 RCU Pipes and Drums originally wore kilts of Napier Tartan loaned by Adelaide University Regiment Pipes and Drums. The Napier Kilts were replaced with kilts of the McKenzie plaid donated by the Adelaide Highland Pipes and Drums for the 1995 Adelaide Tattoo. The unit received it's Gordon Kilts in December 1995 after they had been in storage in Singleton N.S.W. The kilts had been in storage after being made 50 years ago.

413 RCU wear the hat badge of the 27th South Australian Scottish Regiment. These were kindly donated by Mr H. R. "Dick" Corner, a former RSM of the 27th South Australian Scottish Regiment and past Officer of Cadets.

In 1997 413 RCU spent a week in Canberra, Singleton and Bathurst.  During this tour the band played at the service for aboriginal reconciliation, recognising the service of Aboriginal Australians in the Australian Defence force.

In 1998 the Pipes and Drums went to Watsonia in Melbourne for tuition from the Army School of music.
