A Few Hints to Help You Navigate Through Our Site

Many of the suggestions/ideas below don't go into great detail. I just wanted you to be aware of them so that you can pester your favorite computer geek the next time he/she visits.

I'll update this section regularly, so keep checking in. I'll be happy to include any suggestions you'd like to provide. No suggestion/question is too simple!

1. Images are stored in memory referred to as "cache" to speed up surfing. Sometimes, I've found that after making edits to a page, I don't see the updated page until I hit the "Reload/Refresh" button.

Even if this problem only occurs to me while I'm editing the web site, it's a good idea to clean out the cache bin every few weeks. I suggest using the online Help menu with your browser if you don't know how to do this. In Netscape Communicator Version 4.05, go to "Edit-Preferences-Advanced-Cache." This should be similar for other 4.x versions of Communicator.

2. I've tried to incorporate "Back" buttons on every page in our site for ease of maneuverability. However, if you leave our site via one of the links, you'll have to use your browser's "Back" and "Forward" buttons or arrows to navigate. They "should" be located at the top of the page.

3. If the web pages do not fit horizontally on your screen, i.e., you have to scroll right and left to see the entire width, you "may" be able to adjust your monitor's display properties for a wider desktop area. You may want to get some help from a friend who knows how to easily do this.

4. The are many viewing options that you can configure for your browser. If the font size seems to small or large relative to the entire page and/or surrounding images, try to make your "view font/screen font" (or similar) option the "document-specified" font size. This type of option should be available "somewhere" via a "Preferences" menu. In Netscape Communicator Version 4.05, go to "Edit-Preferences-Appearance-Fonts." This should be similar for other 4.x versions of Communicator.

5. You should be able to download any images on our web site to your computer. In Windows 95, place the pointer over the image, click on the right mouse button, and select the "Save image as" option.

6. Dead links: A "link" is an image or text that when selected automatically sends you to another Internet location. Links do away with the need to manual type in the URL of any particular site you want to visit.

In our site, I use links from the home page to help you navigate through the rest of our site, and to visit other sites I thought might be of some interest. The text links on our pages "should" appear as underlined, colored text. The color of the text changes to reflect if the link has or hasn't been visited. Rather than go any further, just try experimenting until you get the hang of things.

From time to time, web sites are removed or moved to a new location, and the link may not longer work. These are generally referred to as "dead" links. It would be a great help to me if you report dead links via our email address, cwvpost731@hotmail.com. The link provided should work with most browsers, but if it doesn't, just type in "cwvpost731@hotmail.com" into the address line of your email program. Thanks in advance.
