Fun Activities

Air Cadets is not all about drill, and work. There are many opportunities to have fun. Camps are held regularly. These include fieldcraft, NCO training, and recreational camps. The feildcraft and NCO training camps are held on Defence Force Bases, usually Gan Gan, Singleton, or Williamtown. The recreational camps often include water sports, such as canoeing, or other activities, like caving. Where instruction is required, a competent and fully qualified instructor is used.

As well as camps the Air Cadets also hold flying days, at airfields around the region. The Squadron also participates in Gliding days at the RAAF Base, Williamtown.

The Squadron also participates in caving and other trips, including trips to the Snowy Mountains. All the cadets had great fun last time we went to the snow. Many people did not pay over $50. For a great weekend skiing. Other paid even less, this is because fundraising was held to subsidise the trip. We went cross-country skiing and also tobogganing.

All Cadets have a great time on camps and activities. Seen above is a photo of a Cadet, caving at Timor. Caving is very popular among our members. And competent instructors are always used, for our caving expeditions.

The Newcastle RSL Air Cadets also go hiking. After Cadets turn 14 years of age, they are encouraged to take part in The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. The Award Scheme is separate to normal Cadet activities and is totally voluntary. It is nationally recognized and involves Community service, Expeditions (hiking, canoeing etc) Physical Recreation and Skills.
