Newcastle RSL Air Cadets also offers some very valuable educational courses. Starting with the basic Aeronautical Knowledge (AK) classes numbered 6 through to 1 (1 being the hardest). After completing the AK classes 6,5, and 4 the cadets can then choose the course in which they wish to participate.

The classes available after completing AK4 are more advanced and specialised. The range is always growing and at the moment includes;

All courses are conducted by Officers or Senior NCO's (Sergeant, or Squadron Sergeant), the instructors know the subject they are teaching well. The RSL Air Cadets, produce their own books for each course. The books are available to the cadets at a very low cost of $3.00. For each course completed the Cadet will earn a badge, which is to be worn on the sleeve of his or her shirt. Also a certificate will be presented to the Cadet. The person who gains the highest marks in each subject will receive a Dux award at the Final Parade. The award usually consists of a certificate and a book. The classes are held during the 2nd half of every Friday night meeting, most Cadets will complete three classes each year.
