"This is my dedication to the U.S.S. BLUEBACK SS-581. BLUEBACK was commissioned in 1959, and served her country for 31 years until 1990. She was one of 3 submarines (BARBEL, BLUEBACK, BONEFISH) that comprised the "B-girls", they were the last diesel electric submarines built for the navy and the 1st class of submarines to incorporate the teardrop hull. The dolphin insignia is special medal , they are awarded to submariners that demonstate a fundamental knowledge of all the various electrical, hydraulic, and other systems that are onboard a submarine. They are worn with honor, and pride, and are earned through dedication and hardwork.
