This page is dedicated to my Sciaenochromis Fryeri, Beside's the Aulonocara's this is my second favorite Malawi cichlid. I have 7 of these, use to have 8 but I lost one female, I have at least one in every tank, my female is in the 260gl tank and she is holding right now, but I have now plans to catch her, so the fry are going to have to defend upon there self, if you don't have one of these cichlids in your tank I would recomend them, you would never regret it.
Sciaenochromis Fryeri: Commonly known as the "Electric Blue". Just looking at them give's them the name.They have found different type of morphes which belongs to different biotopes of the Lake Malawi. They all have the metallic blue and the differences is one is with a white stripe starting on the head running to the end of the dorsal fin "nick name Iceberge" and another type with a white stripe on dorsal fins. On the anal fins will be fire red or a golden yellow, I have seen the Icebereg with fire red anal fins and the othere with yellow anal fins with some yellow in the tail fins. Female's will be gray to brown with some times a soft blue shine.
They will reach from 5" inches to 8" inches (12-20cm) .They will eat flakes, pellets,planktan, shrimp, red mosquito larva about anything. Them female will hold up to 17-19 days. |
