2 years ago I rescued a Springer in Tokyo, Japan and brought her bck to my home in NY. She is 6 years old. Although I am told there is no such thing " I beleive she has what some call "Springer Rage". Every no and then she will go into a rage (espicially, when I try to wipe her rear feet or pull her against her will.She will bite and 2 seconds latter, she shee becomes very normal. My English Springer Spaniel is pure bred. She's beautiful and loving. We bought her from a private owner, not from a pet shop. She will be 14 years old on this coming April 1st. Lately she's been showing her age a great amount, and every day it escala es more and more. My question is if dogs can get parkinson's disease. She has all the symptoms that a human being would. We know that we should take her to the vet, but first we want to be prepared, because we know she won't last much longer, and this ight be her last weeks/months in life. I think that your site is wonderful- it also makes me very sad to see these wonderful animals just thrown away like trash. MANY years ago I was one of those "softhearted" fools who felt bad for that puppy in the window. Now I have an older Maltese who as had nothing but health problems since the time he was 6 months old. We love him to death, and the only way I can make it up to him is to preach to family and friends about the horrors of pet stores. Fortunately we learned from our mistake- our spr nger Indy was found with much searching from a wonderful breeder and is the love of our life!! Keep up the great work!!

Hi, I just recently saved a 5 year old Springer Spaniel from sure death at the SPCA or Pound, he was found roaming around, he is a joy, very well trained, and a wonderful pet. Hi Stephanie! I'm new to the ESS One List network. I hope you received my donation toward Shadow's surgery. How is that little guy coming along? I have owned two springers...one show, one field. I did have dominance aggression problems with one of them. I actually love all animals and I just can't resist the big floppy ears of the springers! I was working with Pat Nichols in trying to adopt an ESS out of Florida but we couldn't arrange transportation. (Even the airlines wouldn't fly the animals because it was so ot!). During the summer I was inquiring about my dog "Rudy" he is 4 years old and has a serious attitude problem. I can't keep him any longer. The vet advised me to put him down. Just last thursday, she told me again. I talked with Marge? but I seem to hav lost her number. Honestly I do not care who I speak with, I have tried training, low protein food, various collars and this dog still turns on my husband and myself. He is a nervous, hyper reck who is dictating our lives. I do not know what to do with him, but I know I can't put him down. Help, I must find someone experienced enough to deal with a pet as out of control as this one.

Although living in the UK it is good to find like minded people elsewhere. Our 2 springers are litter sisters and are now 9 1/2yrs old (Hannah and Rosie) and we rescued them THREE HOURS before euthanasia. We have had them now for 9months and they are real darlings, they have now been joined by Pepper a 5yr old Cocker who we rescued from a family who suddenly became tired of "the dog". They are being joined shortly by Gaynor who is another English Springer from a breeder who has decided that she is no good or breeding! She is 2yr old and will need special understanding. I have worked informally in the Richmond area placing Springers. I have placed many and maintain a list of interested/potential adopters (walking 3 B/W springers always gets lots of questions and people stopping!) The majority of the Richmond no-kill shelters will refer springers to me as do several vets. I am so pleased to hear of your organization. I had worked with Julie Hogan in Manassas but Springer AKC (national) did not have anything established for this area. I have given money to Eastern Eng Springer Spaniel, so am thrilled with the level of you involvement, fantastic web page and some new allies in the effort to help Springers I foster when I can but this is getting a little harder. My 5 yr old male has PRA and is blind in one eye and going blind in the other. The older females(sisters) and the entire household is in an adjustment phase as we deal with this heartbreak and get Morgan ready(if you can ever be!) for his change. My dog Freckles, an English Springer Spaniel that I adopted from SPCA in Sacramento 6 years ago became very ill with Epilepsy and got really bad and he was put to sleep a month ago. I loved him so much and I really miss him. I don't know if I should get another springer but I would like to. It seems like Springers are hyper dogs. I work during the day and I think Freckles got used to my routine but he did bark when he was younger. What do you think? Freckles was like my child. I walked him every day and he even had a bomber jacket and a santa Suit. Springers are addicting am I right. It breaks my heart to see his little blue balls that he loved sitting there and now he is gone.

I have 2 little boys, Casey - 5-1/2 years and Cody - 3 years. They want a dog very bad. I grew up with ESS and my dogs were loving, gentle and very protective of me and my sister. I have a 1,000 sq ft house so I don't want a dog that is too big, but do not like small dogs. I believe an ESS would be perfect for my boys. I am having a hard time locating one. I do not necessarily need papers (which is more expensive) and I wouldn't mind rescuing the right dog(s) as long as they aren't too old. I can't ind any rescue clubs close to home (New Haven, CT) and the one's I have found out of state won't ship or need you to visit several times. Can you provide me with any help? I would appreciate it. If I can't get one before the Winter, I will have to wait until the Spring because I don't think it would be fair to the dog or the kids to be cooped up all winter. I recently rescued a bueatiful Springer from the SPCA. He is great most of the time. I DO NOT want to get rid of him, but I need some help. He bites excessively (he's 6 months and 44 lbs. so it really hurts). I don't know anyone who has had a lot of experience with this breed- thank god for the internet! Thank you for your wonderful ESS page. My grandparents raised springers before they were even recognized by the AKC, and we have had them in the family ever since. I honestly don't think there is a better family dog out there. Also, your English Spring r Spaniel rescue link is not working. The rest of the site looks great! Keep up the good work!
