You had earned your pilot wings with the Marines and fought for this country, hard and true.
Now, you have finally earned your "PERFECT"
set of wings...now go fly with the angels, Grandpa.

TAPS

We have all heard the haunting song, "Taps". It's the song that gives us that lump in our throats and usually creates tears in our eyes whether it be a funeral or the haunting refrain as it echoes across a parade ground or flotilla of tied up warships. But, do you know the story behind the song? If not, I think you will be delighted to find out about it's humble beginnings. It all began in 1862 during the Civil War, when Union Army Captain Robert Ellicombe was with his men near Harrison's Landing in Virginia. The Confederate Army was on the other side of the narrow strip of land. During the night, Captain Ellicombe heard the moans of a soldier who lay mortally wounded on the field. Not knowing if it was a Union or Confederate soldier, the Captain decided to risk his life and bring the stricken man back for medical attention. Crawling on his stomach through the gunfire, the Captain reached the stricken soldier and began pulling him toward his encampment. When the Captain finally reached his own lines, he discovered it was actually a Confederate soldier but the soldier was dead. The Captain lit a lantern and suddenly caught his breath and went numb with shock. In the dim light, he saw the face of the soldier. It was his own son. The boy had been studying music in the South when the war broke out. Without telling his father, he enlisted in the Confederate Army. The following morning, heartbroken, the father asked permission of his superiors to give his son a full military burial despite his enemy status. His request was only partially granted. The Captain had asked if he could have a group of Army band members play a funeral dirge for his son at the funeral. The request was turned down since the soldier was a Confederate; but, out of respect for the father, they did say they could give him only one musician. The Captain chose a bugler. He asked the bugler to play a series of musical notes he had found on a piece of paper in the pocket of the dead youth's uniform. This wish was granted. The haunting melody we now know as "Taps" used at military funerals was born.

Day is done
gone is the sun.
From the Lakes,
From the hills,
From the sky.
All is well
safely rest
God is nigh.

Fading light
Dims the sight,
And a star
gems the sky,
Gleaming bright
From afar,
Drawing nigh,
Falls the night.

Thanks and praise,
For our days,
Neath the sun,
Neath the stars,
Neath the sky,
As we go,
This we know,
God is nigh.

And all our furry friends that crossed the Rainbow Bridge...

In loving memory:

Keasah gave her life for her eight puppies.  It was terrible to watch her die and hear my kids telling me "mommy help her, don't let her die, she has all these babies............."     Thank you Vandy, a cocker for fostering my pups.  Vandy is owned by Sharon Keylore of Petrest Cemetary in Flushing, Michigan.

Go Rest High On That Mountain

I know your life

Onearth was troubled

And only you could know the pain

You werent afraid to face the devil

You were no stranger to the rain.

Go rest High on that mountain

Son and daughter, your work on earth is done

Go to Heaven a shoutin'

Love for the Father and the Son.

Oh, how we cried the day you all left us

We gathered round your graves to grieve

I wish I could see the angels faces

When they hear your sweet voices sing.

Now go rest high on that mountain

Son and duahgter, your work on earth is done

I Go to Heaven just a shoutin'

Love for the Father and the Son.

You are all SADLY MISSED.

We have a secret,
you and I, that no one else shall know.

For who but I can see you lie each night in fire glow?

And who but I can reach my hand before we go to bed,

and feel the living warmth of you, and touch your silken head?

And only I walk woodland paths and see ahead of me

your form racing with the wind, so young again and free!

And only I can see you swim in every brook we pass,

and when I call, no one but I can see the bending grass.

Best Friend - author unknown

If it should be that I grow frail and weak

And pain should keep me from my sleep

Then you must do what must be done

For this last battle can't be won

You will be sad, I understand

Don't let your grief then stay your hand

For this day more than all the rest

Your love and friendship stands the test

We've had so many happy years

What is to come can hold no fears

Would you want me to suffer so?

When the time comes please let me go

Take me where my needs they'll tend

Only stay with me until the end

And hold me firm and speak to me

Until my eyes no longer see

I know that in time you will see

It is kindness that you do to me

Although my tail its last has waved

From pain and suffering I have been saved

Do not grieve it should be you

Who must decide this thing to do

We've been so close, we two these years

Don't let your heart hold any tears
