RULES, PRICES & REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPETITIONS & SERVICES CONDUCTED BY THE KEESHOND CLUB OF NSW (KCNSW)
(EFFECTIVE: AUGUST 2006)

SHOWS

Club Championship Shows:
There are two Championship Shows held each year.  At least one Championship Show per year is held at Easter to coincide, where possible within a day or so, with the Sydney Royal Easter Show.  The Championship Show held at Easter will be the Perpetual Trophy Show, where all classes in Show are presented with a Perpetual Trophy.  The other Championship Show (which can be held at any time of the year) has Perpetual Trophies for Best in Show and Best Opposite Sex in Show.  Club Trophies always remain the property of the KCNSW and are not to leave the possession of the Trophy Steward.  All Trophies are engraved after each show.
 
Once Perpetual Trophies are full and can no longer be used, the original donor of the Trophy is approached to replace the Trophy;  if they are not interested then it is open to all members.  The completed Trophy is then photographed and the photo along with the list of winners is kept in the Club’s archives.  The actual Trophy is awarded to the person who has won it the most.  If that person does not want the Trophy it is then offered to the original donor and then to the members of the Club.    

 Sydney Royal Easter Show:
The Best of Breed Keeshond is recognised on a Perpetual Trophy held by the Club.  Tri-coloured sashes are awarded to the winners of each class and each Challenge Winner.  A Best of Breed Trophy is donated by the Club and presented to the RAS of NSW for the breed Judge to present in the show ring to the Best of Breed winner.  

  KCNSW Spring Fair Championship Show:
On occasions, when applied for through Dogs NSW, the Club conducts a third Championship Show in conjunction with the Spring Fair in November.  The speciality date is in accordance with Dogs NSW Show Calendar (varied yearly) and the Judge is allocated by the Spring Fair Show Committee.  There are no perpetual trophies for this show.  The Club may also request that the Spring Fair Show Committee conduct Keeshond Breed Features at both the Spring Fair and Classic Shows.  When this is requested, the Club will provide Keeshonds with special ribbons/trophies for classes in breed.

  Club Parades/Open Shows:
The Club usually conducts at least one Parade or Open Show per year.  It is intended to appoint a trainee or recently approved Judge the opportunity to learn more about the Keeshond Breed.  There is a perpetual trophy for the Best Exhibit in Parade which is retained by the Club.  There are no perpetual trophies for the Open Show.  When the trophy is complete, it shall be awarded as per perpetual trophies held for the Championship Shows.

COMPETITIONS

All owners of dogs or bitches entered in any Club competition must be members of the Club and financial for the entire period of the competition.

 Kendari Encouragement Trophy:
This is awarded to the dog or bitch which gains the most Challenge points from 1st December to 30th November each year.  To compete for this Trophy you must be a resident of NSW of the ACT.  A complete list of Challenges with original Certificates and return self-addressed envelope must be received by the Club’s Secretary by no later than the 3rd Friday of December.  The Secretary will present all entries with accompanying Challenge Certificates at the January KCNSW meeting where the winner will be announced. 

Colijn Bitch Encouragement Trophy:
Awarded to the bitch which gains the most Breed Challenge Points (Group wins not included) from 1st July to 30th June each year.  To compete for this Trophy you must be a resident of NSW or the ACT.  A complete list of Challenges with original Certificates and return self-addressed envelope must be received by the Club’s Secretary by the 2nd Thursday of July.  The Secretary will then present all entries with accompanying Challenge Certificates at the Club’s July meeting where the winner will be announced.

 Calivale Dog Encouragement Trophy:
 Awarded to the dog which gains the most Breed Challenge Points (Group wins not included) from 1st July to 30th June each year.  To compete for this Trophy you must be a resident of NSW or the ACT.  A complete list of Challenges with original Certificates and return self-addressed envelope must be received by the Club’s Secretary by the 2nd Thursday of July.  The Secretary will then present all entries with accompanying Challenge Certificates at the Club’s July meeting where the winner will be announced.  

 Puppy of the Year:
Members residing in NSW or the ACT are eligible to enter with dogs or bitches competing only in classes 1, 1A, 2, 2A, 3, 3A at Championship Shows held in NSW or the ACT.  Competitors may submit their best results each calendar month.  Pups are eligible during the year, from 1st December to 30th November, in which they turn twelve months of age.  Each monthly result is to be sent to the Club Secretary within ten days of the end of each month.

A class in show win at a breed, group or semi group Championship show shall be awarded 5 points – the same as a class in show win at an all breeds show.  5 points per month is the maximum points obtainable.  The winner of the Trophy will be announced at the January KCNSW meeting, and noted at the Easter Championship Show. 

 Keeshond of the Year (Updated)
This competition is open to members residing in NSW, ACT and QLD and for those dogs or bitches competing only in classes 4, 4A, 5, 5A, 6, 6A, 7, 7A, 8, 8A, 9, 9A, 10, 10A, 11, 11A (no special, neuter or sweepstakes classes) at Championship shows held in NSW, ACT or QLD.  Adult Dogs and Bitches are eligible during the year, from 1st December to 30th November, in which they have already turned twelve months of age or older.  The best monthly result is to be sent to the Club Secretary within ten (10) days of the end of each month.

Points (which are cumulative) are awarded on the following basis (note that KCNSW Championship Shows are allocated on a slightly different scale):

All Breed & Semi Specialist Shows

Level 1:   1st in Class            3 points
              2nd in Class           2 points
              3rd in Class            1 point

Level 2:   Best in Group         3 points
              RU Best in Group   2 points
              Class in Group       1 point

Level 3:   Best in Show         3 points
              RU Best in Show    2 points
              Class in Show        1 point

KCNSW Championship Shows

Level 1:   1st in Class            3 points
              2nd in Class           2 points
              3rd in Class            1 point

Level 2:   Challenge              3 points
              Res Challenge       2 points

Level 3:   Best in Show         3 points
              RU Best in Show   2 points
              Class in Show       1 point

Points are awarded by taking the best points per level, eg:  if your Keeshond wins Best in Group and a Class in Group, then your Kee is entitled to 3 points for Level 1 (1st place in their class), and 3 points for Level 2 (Best in Group).  You can take either the 3 points for Best in Group, or 1 point for the Class in Group, but you cannot take points for both the Best in Group and the Class in Group award.

At a Group or semi-group Championship Show Level 2 is disregarded (an example of this type of show is either the Spitz Breeds Club of NSW or Non-Sporting Dog Club of NSW).  These shows do not have a group level so the maximum points obtainable is 6 points (eg:  1st in Class (3 points) and Best in Show (3 points). Other examples of Keeshond of the Year scoring:
  • If your Kee wins Best in Show, your Kee is entitled to 9 points (ie:  3 pts for 1st place, 3 pts for Best in Group and 3 pts for Best in Show)
  • If your Kee wins RU Best in Group and a Class in Show, your Kee is entitled to 6 points (3 pts for 1st place, 2 pts for RU Best in Group and 1 pt for Class in Show)
  • If your Kee is placed 2nd in their class, then wins Reserve Challenge, RUBOB, RU Best in Group and RU Best in show, your Kee is entitled to 6 points (2 pts for 2nd place, 2 points for RU Best in Group and 2 points for RU Best in Show)
  • If your Kee wins a class in Show at the Spitz Club of NSW (semi-specialist), then your Kee is entitled to 4 points (ie 3 pts for 1st place, and 1 point for Class in Show).
  • If your Kee wins Bitch Challenge and a Class in Show at a KCNSW Championshp Show, your Kee is entitled to 7 points (ie:  3 pts for 1st place, 3 points for Challenge and 1 point for Class in Show).


 Pointscores (Main and Puppy):
When run, the Main Pointscore covers every class (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 1a, 2a, 3a, 4a, 5a, 10a, 11a) at selected Championship Shows (as listed in the Club’s Newsletter) held in NSW from January to November.  The cumulative scoring system is as follows:

A maximum of 7 points is obtainable at one show.

 When run, the Puppy Pointscore is open to dogs or bitches competing only in Baby Puppy, Minor Puppy or Puppy classes (1, 2, 3, 1a, 2a, 3a) at selected Championship Shows (as listed in the Club’s Newsletter) held in NSW for January to November.  The cumulative scoring system is as follows:

3rd in class

Class in Group
 1 pt
Class in Show
 1 pt


A maximum of 5 points is obtainable at one show.

Only members residing in NSW or the ACT are eligible for either of the Pointscore Trophies.  The Secretary will record awarded points throughout the year.  Points gained at each Pointscore Show are added to determine the final score.  The first three places are awarded Trophies irrespective of how many dog or bitches are on that placing.  The winner is announced at the January meeting and noted at the Easter Championship Show.

 Breeders Trophy:
This is run in conjunction with the Easter Championship Show (the Perpetual Show).  The scoring system is as follows:
1st in class
  3 pts
2nd in class
  2 pts
3rd in class
  1 pt
Challenge
10 pts
Res Challenge
  7 pts
Best in Show
  1 pt
Class in Show
  1 pt

The points are cumulative and are tallied for all dogs/bitches in each Breeder’s Prefix.  The winner is announced at the trophy presentation at the Club show.  The breeder who owns the winning prefix does not have to be a member of the Club nor have entered the show.

AWARDS

 Championship / Obedience Awards:
 This is open to all dogs and bitches who have gained a Championship Award, Obedience or other Title/Award during the year.  To qualify for this award all the owners of a dog or bitch must be financial members of the Club for at least twelve months.   The Club Secretary is to be advised in writing, accompanied by a copy of the amended Registration Certificate plus the Trophy fee set by the Club (currently $10.00), as soon as possible after the dog or bitch has gained their Title/Award.  All Championship Titles/Awards must be received by the Secretary no later than the 3rd Friday of December.  Nominations received after this date will be awarded in the following year. 

If they wish, members may send a copy of the Pedigree Certificate and a photo of the dog for inclusion in the Club Champions Book.  Memento Trophies will be awarded at the Easter Championship Show.  Anyone unable to attend to collect their Trophy should forward $3.00 for postage, or $10.00 for overseas postage.

MEMBERSHIP

  Club Membership :
Membership of the Keeshond Club of NSW is open to any person interested in Keeshonds residing in Australia or overseas.  Memberships are annual (1 July to 30 June) and renewal must be received by 30 June each year.  Membership must be current and continuous to compete in any KCNSW competition.  If membership lapses, eligibility to compete in club competitions will cease.

Membership fees are set by the Club and are currently (in Australian Dollars):

  • $15.00 single
  • $20.00 dual
  • $25.00 family
  • $20.00 Breeders Directory

  Life Membership to the KCNSW:

Who should receive a nomination of Life Membership?

  • Long term members;
  • Long term dedication to the breed;
  • Keeshond Club of NSW show support/attendance;  and
  • Extended/extensive general support to the Club.

A formal selection process, that is effective from the conclusion of the 2002 Annual General Meeting, currently exists.  To nominate for Life Membership the following process shall take place:

  • A nomination may be received from financial members of the Keeshond Club of NSW only;
  • Nominations shall only be accepted in writing to a maximum of one (1) A4 page;
  • Nominations must be received by the Secretary by the May General Meeting for that year’s nomination at the July Annual General Meeting;
  • The nominee is to have had a minimum of ten (10) years active and supportive membership of the Keeshond Club of NSW and promoted the breed in good stead during that time;  and
  • One (1) nomination per year only shall be approved (the only exception is that of couples/partners who may constitute a nomination and hence be awarded to both persons).

The process of determining Life Membership shall be:

  • Nominations shall be judged by any combination of two (2) Patrons or Life Members;
  • The judging panel shall be nominated and voted upon by those present at the May General Meeting for that year if any nominations are forthcoming;
  • Nominations shall not be disclosed by the Secretary until a Judging panel is selected in approach order by those present at the May General Meeting;
  • The Judging panel is to judge all nominations on merit from the written submission provided by the nominee;
  • The Judging panel shall make recommendations to the KCNSW in preference order of those who they think is most worthy of Life Membership;
  • The Judging panel may deem that no Life Memberships are worthy from those nominated for that year;
  • The Judging panel recommendations should be accompanied by a written disclosure as to their choice (if any) of Life Memberships to the Committee of the KCNSW;  and
  • The Judging panel's recommendation shall be read and approved or otherwise by the members present at that years Annual General Meeting.

NEWSLETTER & WEBSITE

  Newsletter Dates:

The Club's newsletter is printed/emailed quarterly and generally at the end of the period it represents:

  • January/February/March
  • April/May/June
  • July/August/September
  • October/November/December


  Members results in the Newsletter:
Members submitting show results for the newsletter must send separate show results to the Secretary and Newsletter Editor for publicationn in the Club's newsletter.  Only Group, Show and Sweepstakes awards will be published or similar in Obedience, Agility, etc.  The result for the month must state:

  • Show
  • Date
  • Dog's Registered Name
  • Owner's Name
  • Award in Sweepstakes, Group and/or Show


  Litter Notices:
Members are eligible to advertise their Keeshond litters in the Club's newsletter and on the Club's website.  Litter notices are only for one (1) issue of the Club's quarterly newsletter and three (3) months on the Club's website.  Litter notice fees are set by the Club and are currently $10.00 per litter.

Information is to be sent to the Secretary accompanied by the appropriate fee.  The information should detail: 

  • Kennel Prefix
  • Owners of the Litter
  • Sire's Registered Name
  • Dam's Registered Name
  • Number of Puppies (Male/Female) - where applicable
  • Whelping Date or Approximate Due Date
  • Contact Details (phone, e-mail and website)

Any current litter notices are provided to people who enquire about puppies and at promotional events, but only for the current three month period from registering your litter notice with the Secretary.

  Breeders Directory Advertising:
 Members are eligible to advertise in the Club's Breeders Directory.  The directory is a list of breeders advertised in the Club's quarterly newsletter and on the Club's website.  Furthermore, this list is given out to people who enquire about puppies and at promotional events, such as the Sydney Pet and Animal Expo.  The annual fee is set by the Club and is currently $10.00 per year (1 July to 30 June).

Breeders Directory advertisements are limited to what would normally fit on a business card, and must include:

  • Kennel Prefix
  • 2 lines of slogan
  • Kennel Owners name
  • Suburb, State and Postcode
  • Contact phone numbers
  • E-mail address
  • Website address
The Club does not give out or recommend supplying people with a home address of members, just a suburb, state and postcode for member's privacy and protection.

  Advertising:
Advertising in the Club's newsletter is available to all members.  The fee for advertising is set by the Club and is currently $20.00 per single page.  All advertisements must be printed by the member submitting the advertising to be included in the newsletter.  Please contact the Secretary for how many copies are to be supplied and the closing date of newsletter advertising.
