The Bolognese has one of the longest verifiable lineages of the Bichon dogs, dating back until at least 1200. Like the other Bichons, it originated in the area around southern Italy, but
unlike them, it seems to have stayed pretty close to home, and is now considered rare even there. An all white dog (although sometimes blonde markings appear), the Bolognese does not have the undercoat of the Bichon
Frise, giving a softer appearance. The coat requires a daily brushing but all in all less care than a that required by the Bichon Frise. Their look is more reminiscent of the Coton de Tulear, another Bichon-like
breed. Typically Bichon in personality - they are very attached to their owners, and need the attention and companionship of their human family. They tend to be outgoing and fearless, and made a reasonably good
watchdog. The breed is hard enough to find that very little health data is publically available. However, by all accounts they seem to be healthy and hardy.
