DOWN ON THE FARM
My great great grandfather began farming in
Fox Creek Township, Harrison Co, MO in 1876.  While the land he farmed has since passed out of the family his descendents still work the land in and around Fox Creek township.
I spend alot of weekends at my grandparents farm.  Below are photos of my favorite animals on the farm.
This is KC!  During the fall of 1997 I was visiting with my grandparents at the time they sell that springs calves, and pick out what heifers they want to keep.  I kept voting for a brown calf that had a long neck that looked like a deer.  Everyone said no she was too small.  The ugly white calf they wanted kept running from us.  So at the last minute my Uncle took up for me and said we could keep the brown one.
You would think since she has me to thank for not being hamburger she would be nice to me....Nope she usually wants nothing to do with me.  Every now and again she lets me pat her head.
I got alot of teasing about her being so small, and that if she had trouble delivering her calf they were going to call me.
The closer it got to the time for her to deliver the more I worried.  One afternoon in April 1999 I went to my aunts for dinner as we pulled in the drive we saw two heifers having calves.  While I was watching them I felt something nudge me on the back.  I turned around and it was KC standing there with her water bag hanging out.
ITS A GIRL! Meet KC's baby Star below.
Isnt she a beauty.  I know the first picture is a little gross but I just love the expression in KC's face and eyes.  KC is a wonderful mom!  Now my only concern in what to do with Star.  I want to keep her but my aunt keeps objecting.  Hopefully my Uncle with intercede on my behalf again this fall.  :)
