I hope late in 2006 I will be able to get a pair of Bronze Wing Pionus.
These wonderful birds are large birds but lack the noise of large birds. Many Pionus are shy and are great appartment birds. Other birds of the same size scream and holler where this bird make soft noises. There are a few other breeds of Pionus that are more well know like the Blue headed, Maxemillion, White Cape, and then there is one more but I can't remeber what its name was.
Most of these breeds come from south america.

The breed I am getting is from South America in the Andes of Colombia. They are know for their shyness. This breed is also very hard to breed. I hope that my ideas will work.
The description of the Bronze wing is as follows: Over all color is a violet-blue, head and nape(Neck) bronze-brown, Feathers broadly edged dark violet-grey; chin has a speck of white; throat a dull pink; the back, rump and sholder feathers dark bronze-green with blue edging. Under the tail it is vived red.

I have desinged a nest box for this tipe of bird and I hope they will like it and will breed for me.  This will be new for me for I have always bred small birds and these birds are about 10-11inches tall some get about up to 12 inches. These birds are mainly fruit and vegitable eaters so they do not eat much seeds or pellets.
Breeding Season starts in April and some times lasts till November, eggs measures 1.15 by 0.93 inches.
Should be housed in large cages for the birds to exersize properly. A small flight is perfext a 7.5(L) by 3(W) by 6 ft(H) is a great size cage for one pair of breeding Bronze wing Pionus.  Another cage size in 4ft(L) by 3ft(W) by 6 ft.(H) but if you have the room for the 7.5 foot cage by all meens give them the larger cage. I have room for only the 4 foot cage and they should do just fine in it.
I bought my 4X3x6 flight from KWcages.com in Calafornia for $224 pluse shipping. Just go to there web sit and ask for a catalog and they will send it to you.
I us a lot of things from them they have nice stackable cages I us for my Cockatiels.
I also us their Rabbit auto matic watering sistum for my birds. It is so much nicer then haveing to dump water bowls every day. It took my birds 2 days to figer out how to get the water out but they like to play with anything NEW and shinny.
