Chihuahuas come in all sizes, colors, two basic body styles and short or long hair. AKC states a Chihuahua should not weigh over 6 lbs. You can find the exact verbiage for the AKC Chihuahua Standard at AKC...

Basic body styles are Cobby and Deer and there is a mixture of both.

Merle's are also included as a marking choice through AKC, though photos of the dog have to be sent in to get that as a listed marking. Here is  photo of a Blue Merle, which has a blue body, tan accents and dark blue and black merle marks. Also many true merles will have a blue eye.

Short hair vs. long hair.. Chihuahuas do shed whether they are short of long haired.   The above photos are of short haired these next two are of long-haired

Like all dogs they have varied temperaments and personalities. Chihuahuas make great pets for young and old.  But can be quite fragile for some rough handling children. Smaller is not always better. We have Chihuahuas from 3 to 6 lbs and try to place the right size to the right family
