Interested in owning a Yorkie?

Yorkies come in a variety of colors and sizes, but AKC states a Yorkie should not weigh over 7 lbs and be steel blue in body color with a golden head. You can find the exact verbage for the AKC Yorkie Standard at AKC...

Many people imagine the Yorkie in the consummate show dog appearance, as a beautiful regal looking dog, but when they come out and look at a puppy or an adolescent, they are totally bewildered by the look of the puppies.

When Yorkie pups are born they are smooth coated black and tan and resemble a Rottweiler, but very small. Most are between 3-6 ounces a birth.

When they are about 6 weeks old, they are growing a coat.  They are absolutely beautiful at this age and stay that way usually till they are 3 months old.

But wait !. there's more! They are not done morphing

After 3 months they go thru the gangly phase with hair sticking out all over the place, that seems to last for about year.

Photos 4,5,6,and 7 are of the same dog, Makenzie, with the first picture of her at 5 months and the last photo (12/26/06) at 20 months. Amazing transformation? As you can see, Yorkshire Terriers change quite a bit.

Many people keep their Yorkies clipped for easy maintenance.

This male has a , a male wrap, commonly called a Dickey-Doo in our home, this is to prevent him from marking the house.
