"My" future Cat(s) (Delilah and Pippi)

Although they are not so future anymore: they are with us now!

On June 22, 1998 as a result of the loving relationship of Wicca of Glastonbury Tor and Dahshur Supersonic there was born a WONDERFUL Somali variant. She was called Delilah of Glastonbury Tor after the (in)famous biblical person who was the downfall of Samson. We decided to call her Laylah. Some of her history is related hereunder.

Her delivery was very difficult. Her mother, Wicca, had been due for a few days when her breeder, Kris noticed some blood. Wicca was conveyed to the clinic of the veterinary faculty of the University in Utrecht, where a caesarean was carried out. It turned out there was a torsion of the uterus, and two kittens were dead already, probably due to lack of oxygen. The remaining two a boy and a girl were still alive. Wicca, however, as will happen sometimes when a caesarean has been performed, lacked all the normal mothering impulses once she had recovered from the anaesthesia. Luckily there was a foster mother available, a Maine Coon who had just delivered ten kittens. All seemed to be well except that the foster mother barely had enough milk for ten kittens, let alone for the two added ones. So all twelve of them had to have additional feeding. Within a few days Wicca's hormonal system was normal again, and her motherly instincts started functioning in a way... It turned out that the kittens didn't really want to accept her nipples, because -due to the operation- they weren't hidden in Somali hair. Delilah seemed to have less difficulty than her brother, Samson, but even so it was additional feeding for both of them.
