A Short History of the Breed

Many myths surround the lineage of the Boxer. Some point to a cross breeding between Mastiffs and Bulldogs, others between Great Danes and the terriers. Enthusiasts still agrue over the credibility of any perscribed mixes. It is for certain, that today's Boxer was created in the late 1800's, bred from the Bullenbeiszer (bull baiter) and Barenbeiszers (bear baiter) of Germany. These Mastiff type dogs were bred to be short of muzzle and swift of foot with exceptional power for their body size.
