Once again, we have
another cat who came to us in a very unique way. If you have read
the story of Blaze, you have already heard about this fella. After
my son lost his cat Bruiser to a sudden illness, Blaze showed up one day
at the door to "his" deck with Curious at his side. What is very
intriquing about this is that Blaze is not a very social cat and prefers
to be a bit of a loner. I opened the door and Blaze ran in as usual,
while Curious strolled on in, looked around, saw Vagabond, our german shepard
mix, looked at her as though thinking, "Oh, a dog." and proceeded to get
a drink from her doggie water dish. He then strolled into my husbands
den where I opened the door to the hallway for him, where he made an immediate
right turn to go into my son's room, as if he knew that was where he was
to go! Curious and my son hit it right off and they both are usually
seen with each other. He is not a cat who disturbs you in any way,
is not difficult, but is oh so curious about what you may be doing!
He does not get in your way, but is always checking out what you are doing,
as if to say, "What's that? How are you doing that? How does
that work?". Hence his name! We installed a pocket door
to the kitchen so that my husband could do the cooking he so loves without
the distraction of all the cats, but it took Curious about two days to
figure out how to open that door! He NEVER went in the kitchen......that
is off limits! But he would open the door and allow everyone else
to go in! He would be sitting outside the kitchen door with that
usual look as it to say, "I didn't go in!".
Well, I devised a loop to go around the door handle to keep him from opening
the door any longer. However, if he thinks you are not looking, you
will find him studying that loop, knowing that if he can just figure
out how it works, he will be able to open the door again!
One of my son's dogs was hurt rather badly, having gotten tangled up
in the kennel fencing, we believe (we are still trying to figure out what
happened). The result was that the dog, Sebastian, had a tear in
his lung as a result of the incident. Well, our most very special
vet told us that he must stay totally immobile for some time, until
it healed. So, Sebastian ended up in a training cage where he had
to stay until eveything healed up. Curious, of course, was curious
what it was like inside the cage, and, being such a sensitive cat
he went in to keep Sebastian company!
Now, I ask you, how thoughtful can you get? Curious has been a wonderful
addition to our family. Although, during the later part of Sebastian's
recovery, after he was healed enough to be out of the cage but not yet well
enough to go outside again, he stayed in my son's room. Oh, the look
Curious would get! There is a dog in his room!
He was very indignant about this, but begrudgingly shared the room with
Sebastian.
As you can see, Curious is a hilarious addition to our family, with
his never ending curiosity and quirks. He apparenty was out there
just waiting for us!
