Gaits

A gait is a movement that takes a horse forward. Some examples are walk, trot, canter, and, gallop.

A walk has four beats. It is the slowest gait.

Next is the trot. It is a two beat gait in which the horse's right front leg and left back leg and then the opposite touch the ground at the same time.

A canter is a three beat gait. The horses inside leg leads.

A gallop is a four beat gait. It is the fastest. A horse may change leads.

Some horses also pace. In this gait a horses front and back right legs touch the ground at the same time then it reverses it.
