My Little Baby Girl

Well, as you can tell, after we got Lasher we went ferret crazy and did some ferret math :) Lasher seemed depressed to me and I thought maybe for the Xmas season I could get him a brother or sister. I went to our PJ pet store and the store had just gotten in a bunch of baby ferrets. I stared at them for about 30 minutes and then got the idea to get my boyfriend another ferret for Christmas. Well, I hopped on the Toronto bus and hurried home so that I could tell my boyfriend that we were getting antoher ferret. I ran into him before we got home and I just told him to pick door #1 or door #2. He picked the door with the ferret as a prize (I had already gotten him some presents and so the other door was his current presents). We ran to the pet store and picked our Emaleth because she was the only ferret who was calm in our hands and didn't even try to bite us. Emaleth, as you can probably guess, is the name of another Anne Rice character.
As the above picture illustrates, she excelled at standing up. As you can tell by my use of "excelled" she is no longer with us. Unfortunately, one night when we were giving the ferrets treats all of them stood up except Emaleth. Out of all of my ferrets she seemed to do it whenever she expects that she should be getting a treat ;) When she didn't stand up for a treat I knew that something was wrong. Her back legs seemed very stiff and so I got worried. Over the next couple of days her movements became even more decreased and when we took her into the vet she stayed in the hospital. No one knew what was wrong with her since her blood work and X-rays came back fine. We visited her and she did not move an inch. Even receiving a treat was tough for her and so we knew she was in pain. I would pick her up and she would shake because the movement was painful. We had to make a tough decision and decided to put her to sleep. That was the hardest decision we even had to make! But she died in my arms and was finally at peace. Results came back and she had cancer at only 1 and 1/2 years of age. She was a beautiful ferret and I love her very much. I am glad that my boyfriend picked her over his other presents at Christmas because she blessed us with her remarkable presence. It's tough to lose a ferret but we must remember the good times.
