Frosty Paws

I'm not sure who originally posted the Frost paws recipe to the list. Upon asking for a re-run of the post I received dozens so I've not included credit here. If it was YOU, Please let me know so proper credit can be given.

32oz. vanilla yogurt (I used low fat)
1 mashed banana or lg. jar of baby fruit
2 tbsp. peanut butter
2 tbsp. honey (optional)
Mix all ingredients together & spoon into ice cube trays. I had cut the recipe in half & still filled 2 ice cube trays, but I have only 1 dog. She loves them!!!!.

Okay, here's my Italian Beef recipe if you'd like to add it to the recipe page. Wow, it's so exciting to have my own recipe....LOL

Go to the grocery store and buy a roast, onions, garlic, and a jar of pepperocinis (in the pickle area). Come home, slice the roast into several chunks. Then slice your onions and garlic into chunks/slices as well. Open your jar of pepperocinis and dump the juice into your crock pot. Cut the stems out of the pepperocinis and throw the stems away. Now just start layering your roast, onions, garlic and pepperocinis in your crock pot. Add about a half cup of water and cook it all about 6-8 hours on low or maybe 4 hours on high. Then take the chunks of roast out of the crock pot and start pulling the meat apart with forks. Then I put the meat back into the crockpot and cook it another hour or two so that the meat is spicy from the pepperocinis. I usually serve this on a round bun or hoagey type bun with swiss cheese.

Cautionary word: If you don't like spice, you can omit the pepperocinis but I'm not sure it would be quite as favorful.

Speaking of receipes, I have this one handy I'm taking to my boss tomorrow, and it got raves at our wet 3rd of July cookout-for ribs. They were out of this world.
1 rack pork spareribs
1/2 cup dry rub(see receipe below)
barbeque sauce
Dry rub:
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup salt
3 tablespoons garlic powder
4 tablespoons fresh cracked black pepper
1 tablespoon each of:paprika, cayenne pepper, ground thyme, ground celery seed, and onion powder.
Mix all ingredients together
preheat oven to 200 degrees F.Rub rack with dry rub, wrap it tightly in foil, and cook in oven for 5-6 hours. When done, coat in BBQ sauce and reheat over low fire.

It sounds daunting, (I would usually shy away from somethng so involved, but my love of ribs over rode it), but if your going to be home you can pop them in the oven all morning...they are worth it.

Dog Biscuits

1 cup beef liver, cooked and minced
2 or 3 cloves of fresh garlic, minced
2 1/2 cups water
1 teaspoon honey
1 Tablespoon active dry yeast
1/2 cup warm water ( for dissolving yeast)
3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
2 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups cornmeal
1 3/4 cups old fashioned rolled oats
1/4 cup wheat germ
1 cup non fat dry milk
1/2 cup brewers yeast (optional, but some feel it helps to control fleas)
4 teaspoons iodized salt
3 eggs, beaten
1 egg beaten with 1/4 cup milk ( for brushing tops of buiscuits)

Rinse and cut the raw liver into small pieces. Combine with the garlic and water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, cover the pot, lower the temperature to simmer and cook for 15 minutes. Remove from the stove and cool. When cool, grind or puree this mixture ( water included) and set aside.

Dissolve the honey and yeast in the warm water and set aside. In a large mixing bowl, blend the flours with the cornmeal, oats, wheat germ, dry milk, brrewers yeastand salt. Add the cooled liver/garlic mixture, the dissolved yeast and the beaten eggs to the dry ingredients. With a large spoon mix this together well.

Turn the mixture out onto a work surface which you've dusted with flour. Knead for at least 4 to 5 minutes. Return the dough to the mixing bowl, cover and place somewhere warm to rest for 15 minutes. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees and grease 2 to 3 cookie sheets.

Divide the dough into 3 equal parts and leave 2 in the bowl. Roll out the third with a rolling pin until its between 1/8 and 1/4 inch thick. Cut and shape into biscuits. Place these fairly close together on the cookie sheet. Repeat with the other 2 balls of dough. You may also chill or freeze whatever dough won't fit into your oven at one time.

Brush the egg/milk mixture over the tops of the biscuits and bake for 1 hour. Turn the oven off and leave the biscuits in the oven overnight, or for several hours, until they are dog biscuit hard.

These biscuits may be frozen in a airtight plastic bag.

Alix sure LOVES these biscuits.
