But then-proof positive existed when in at a flea market in St. Augustine (the oldest city in Florida) we ran across this photograph while prowsing through a trunk of old photos. It was dated 1836, New Orleans. Now I understand my love for that wonderful old city - I lived there once. I always knew that too! We now have this picture framed and hanging next to a picture of a paddleboat that once cruised the Mississippi about the same time, Jeff & I (Art & Cira) did. But then, on a trip to North Carolina we found even more evidence...Here we show up again - only this time much more dignified. The date - 1896, at the Antebellum mansion of Col. & Mrs. Dupardieux of Charlotte. It seems I (Xyla) still was a little racy though - although Jeff (Connie) seems to have cleaned up pretty good. There were 2 more pictures in that collection - one of each of us individually. It gives some indication that Connie (Jeff) had just returned from the Middle East on a dig of some sort (you know they were so popular in those days). Mine - I must say - just seems to be some sort of vanity shot (those 2 words -- me & vanity -- in the same sentence - how odd???).
This was me - then - Xyla, you know how those Victorian's were - they couldn't and didn't show anything - modest to the nith degree - guess I lost my modesty somewhere along time - guess I never recovered it!
This
here is Connie (Conrad) taken after he returned from Mesopotamia in 1897.
After these 2 connections I have been able to find anymore - before or
after to connect us together. But believe me I am searching every
flea market & yard sale and dingy old store from here to Istanbul.
If you come across a pix of us together - please let me know. Until
then I remain truly yours - Karrel (Xyla, Cira) - Tampa, 1997.
