LIFE ON THE FARM IN AMERICA

THIS PAGE UPDATED 04/25/05

WELCOME TO DELTA'S PLACE !

I started this homepage in 1997 to show my favorite pastime , my pond. Here it is the year 2005!
I created this pond, waterfall and stream with my trusty shovel and sore back. Most of my knowlege of ponds and how to create them came from the wonderful resources on the internet. I started six years ago with a small hard plastic pond and loved it so much that I had to have a bigger one. If I have one piece of advice to future pond builders it would be to go BIG the first time because you will not be happy for long with a small one.
The pond had brought many hours of enjoyment. This spring I watched a pair of Orioles make it home. This baby made its first flight to the rocks along the edge.

I have always been a gardener of sorts...mostly vegetables. A few years ago I spent a lot of time in a Garden Room and the wonderful people there expanded my intrest to include flowers so consequently I gained three new flower beds in my yard this summer. Big thank you to my friends in the Garden. I can't believe that so many years have pass since I first created this page but they have and they have been great years of growing crops, flowers, veggies and grandchildren on the farm. Life is GOOD !

I have not decided yet if farming is our business or our hobby. Somedays it is debateable. My farmer and I farm about 1500 Acres of corn and have another 1500 Acres of alfalfa.
This keeps us busy all year round.

We also have a hay grinding business that takes care of any rest time we might have. We grind our own hay plus buy hay to grind for feedlots in the area. This business helps to keep the cash flow up during the not so busy winter months. After the crops are planted in the spring, along with the day to day worry of hail, wind and no rain, we keep busy irrigating the corn, which is a blessing in disquise. It is a lot of work but we don't have to worry about drought so we count that among our blessings.
Our hay business is also a big part of our summer work. We get three and in a good year four cuttings of alfalfa and between putting it up in what we call breadloaf stacks and big round bales we keep busy with the upkeep of all the machinery required for an operation this size...in other words repair and maintenence.

No self respecting Nebraskan could create a web page and not mention THE HUSKERS

I am the mother of three wonderful daughters, the wife of a wonderful farmer and the grandmother of five wonderful grandchildren, who are the light of my life.

We live on a farm in Nebraska and would not want it any other way. The life out here is full of good air, good people and as the say "The Good Life"
