     Supplies

1.  Knife such as exacto, budding knife or pen knife

2.  Plastic tape for wrapping, marking pen          

3.  Rootstock  (in the ground or in a pot)

4.  Budwood

 

Demo Steps 

1.   Scrape shank of rootstock

2.   Wrap plastic tape around shank-write cultivar name

3.   Cut “T” in shank

4.   Prepare bud eye and insert with v cut down

5.   Wrap tape around graft.

 

                               STAGES

Newly grafted wrapped   Two weeks later- unwrap graft.  (Should be green.) Grow as any potted plant, water well!

NOVEMBER   Prepare as for winter care, bury pot with

lip of pot below ground level.  Cover multiflora  5 inches with mulch

SPRING  Remove mulch in May.

       CUT OFF ABOVE GRAFT SITE, only stump remains

       Stake added next to graft, so that wind or animal       won’t break off sprouted bud graft.

       Pinch back new growth after it is 6” tall, so that more      canes will be produced.

1st year- called “Maiden”

2nd year-“Number One Plant” (second year of maiden)                     growth- is what one purchases when buying a new rose.
