Fiddler on the Roof


Sometimes I wish people had fiddlers on their roofs.

Then maybe they'd look up there.

One of those mysteries of life, I guess. Just like I always forget that I want a shopping cart, while I walk past five or six in the parking lot of the grocery store. When I get to the entrance, I'm indignant if there isn't a cart there.

People are the same way about roofs. They just don't look up there until the water is dripping inside the house, or at least visibly staining something inside, like the ceiling or a wall.

The following picture was taken on an inspection (using a telephoto lens):

Notice the diverter of metal flashing which is just up slope of the chimney. Looks like someone had problems with ice dams here in the past.
