I had the pleasure of seeing (and meeting) the Kinkster at a club on Long Island about ten years ago. Let me fill you in on a dirty little secret: Kinky is actually a gracious Southern gentleman, always ready with a handshake and a kind word. Sorry for lowing your cover, Kinkster, but keep up the good work...

Mr Friedman<=, Learned about your amazing talents via Mr Don Imus who I have been listening to since 1977 when he was with WNBC in New York. I just purchased your book " Love Song of J. Edgar Hoover" and hope to find copies of your other works. I am a big fan and I would like some assistance in obtaining locations from which to purchase your music in either cassette tape or CD. Also is there anyway I could get an autographed picture and details on how to join your crime club if indeed you are still accepting n w members. I have a good friend who would also like to join. Keep up the great work and always "check your six"

May 25, 1998 Memorial Day Dear Lisa and Kinky, I am a devoted fan and hopeless-suck up who first heard of Kinky on Imus in the Morning when I lived in Providence, RI. I think I went to high school with McGovern. My favorite Kinky line actually comes from his father -- "that's exactly what I didn't want to happen." I wonder if Mr. Friedman might consider donating an autographed copy of ROADKILL or his soon-to-be-published book to our school auction which takes place next April?? We would package the book with a box of fine cigars for a "Kinkstah Fatha's Day" packag for the premium auction section of the event. Our school, Holland Hall, is located in Tulsa, Oklahoma and our 1999 auction theme celebrates the Millenium a la Times Square. This event is a huge fundraiser for our school which awards more than $1,000,000.00 in academic scholarships each year. Oklahomans are great Kinky fans! I know one of his books would create a bidding frenzy. Is there a tour planned to promote the new book, because I'd love to meet him myself. Of the really smart or really stupid people who like his work, I'm one of the mart ones. Thanks for considering our auction. Sincerely, Roberta Potter Auction Chairman 617 South Redwood Broken Arrow, OK 74012 (Roberta009@aol.com) P.S. I never knew Willie Nelson was from Abbott, Texas. Our car broke down there in April, 1996 at this truckstop with an Arby's. We caught a ride to Dallas with an ex-policeman from Waco. He, my husband, my two kids and I rode in the cab of his towtr ck to Dallas where we rented a car to get back home to Tulsa. We'll never forget Abbott.

I've been a Kinky fan for many, many years-- back to the days of the Texas Jewboys. When "Love Song of JEH" was released, I had the privilege of meeting the Kinkster at Oxford Books in Atlanta, and he was a charmer. He signed an old lp, a CD, and a couple of his books for me. Unfortunately, I lost all of these in a fire Feb 11 of this year. Hopefully, I'll be able to get to him again to get my replacement CDs and books (I'm looking for records too) signed. Nice job on this site.

First found the Kinksta while masquerading as a little Heb from the armpit of Texas (Port Arthur). Then saw him sing his songs in LA (Carl Reiner sat in front of us) and he had everyone, including my parents, laughing, crying and rolling on the floor. God bless that little plectrum: I've thought several times of tossing it, but somehow it manages to stay put. Come back to LA Kinky -- we need ya.

Aspiring mystery writer that I am, I am ashamed to admit I was unfamiliar with Kinky Friedman until a good friend told me that's okay because he isn't exactly mainstream P.D. James, etc. He also said I MUST read Kinky Friedman, and since this friend is t e kookiest person I know I can't wait. So where do I start? Good to know there are still cool people around who can be lovingly irreverent.

Well, here it is, Sunday afternoon and I'm at work. Brought along my most recent friend, "Armadillos & Old Lace". Finished that up and then I went downstairs to the Downtown Bookstore and picked up a new friend. Her name is "Frequent Flyer". I strolled out to Public Square in the heart of downtown and began to read. Then on page 2, as I sat in Downtown Cleveland..."Is it business or pleasure?" She asked. "I'm going to Cleveland," (Kinky) said. I think you need to come check out Cleveland now Kinkster. Granted it's still flyover country, but it's changed alot, for the better. We do have all the major bookstore so you can sign some books and play some tunes. Yeah, I see that happening, guess I'll just have to catch you next time I'm in Austin. One hell of a website Lisa, you should be on his payroll.

Love your music and books! Great dialogue and many memorable lines. I think my favorite is "sometimes you gotta find what you like and let it kill you." Contenders are: "sleep came slower than a frigid woman" and "the afternoon was as cold as blue eye that don't love you anymore." Being owned by a couple of cats, I also appreciated "cats are like experienced lovers... they only come when they wish." Keep up the good work! Jim Knight

It is great to see Kinky on MSNBC with the IMAN. I have been a fan since the early 70's. I saw Kinky at the Ivanhoe and Harry's Hope in the Chicago area, a long, long time ago. My wife and I had a beer with Kinky between shows at the Ivanhoe and I am sure that he would remember this.(Right!) (Kinky may not remember much of the Harry Hope's appearance. He had a cast or a bandage on one wrist. I believe that he had an altercation with a revolving plate glass door and the door won! Kinky was obviously injured and taking some "prescription medication" at the time. I believe that I have all the old vinyl and I am picking up the new CD's as they become available. (I also have "Country Porn" by Chinga Chavin.) I also enjoy the books. It seems to be a great way to recycle old song lyrics! (Save the Planet, win valuable prizes, or something like that.) I am looking for "Sold American" on CD. I have tried to check the web site but the server seems to be down. I will keep trying. I am sure that this is more than anyone ever wanted, or cared, to know, but Kinky always brings back great memories. A 52 year old, over the hill, "Groupie".

After numberous tries, I finally talked to someone and they told me because of the earthquake in California, that it would be delayed by a couple of weeks. Here it is years later. Been perhaps your greatest Israeli fan for twenty some odd years. I do a couple of three songs of yours in the three or four gigs a year I do, sprinkling some Jewish Country into a mostly blues repertoire. I don't think there is any real infraction of a thor's rights involved, because nobody makes any money when I do a gig. This Levantine banana republic just isn't ready for my music. My very small following is however very loyal. Two more thoughts: are mystery novels really the proper vehicle for you copious talents? If you ever get to Israel, could we possibly jam, gig, or generally do serious damage together? Marc, Kibbutz Afik

As one of the few little Hebs from the armpit of Texas ... Port Arthur, that is ... I first got turned on to the Kinksta more than 10 years ago. Saw him play a restaurant in L.A. with my family (we sat behind Carl Reiner) and we very nearly fell off our c airs in laughter and tears. Enough of this mystery novel writing stuff, Kinky, it's time tear the damn thing loose and get on stage again.

I'm an odd person. I belong to Rabbi Jimmy Kessler's Congregation in Galveston, Texas. I didn't know it at time of my conversion, but I'm the only black person who did that in that congregation. I also own a small community newspaper. I'm the one standing between the right wing bigots on one side and the right wing black racists on the other side. Do you ever do benefits? There's a lot of people who still need defending around here. And I'm a Jew because, I always felt it was something I should do. For me Judism is a "do something about it religion." Rabbi Kessler said he's worried about your teasing him in public. However, I think you're real funny. I've been so busy fighting bigots and anti-semites your books are still on my "to do list." BUT, I've heard your songs and seen a lot of your T.V. appear nces. I know that this is weird request. But I thought that maybe my strange position in life might be something that would might find interesting. My web page is new and under construction. My phone number is: (409) 740-7332. If you've got a moment - thanks. Marsha Wilson Little Brown Jewish Newspaper Publisher - fighting off assorted bigots and religious right wing nuts of all colors!

Very good coverage in the Swedish press after the visit this week. A good article in Femina, a womens magazine (!) page 124 issue 4/1998. The headline reads: "I am like an insect trapped in a hamburger". In addition, the free-of-charge newspaper Metro ran a story on Kinky 2 April 1998: "The country-singer who became an author". Furthermore, the conservative daily Svenska Dagbladet (SvD) had a big article on Kinky 30 March: "From Country to detective stories". All in all, great coverage as a result of the v sit to Sweden!!!.

I savor each new book. Because I generally only have time to read on the beach during summer vacation, it tends to be Kinky time. I hope that someone gets the bright idea to produce movie versions of the books. I can't imagine actors playing the parts f Village Irregulars, however. They must be the real thing. Kinkster included. Please, no Tom Selleck as Kinky Friedman. My wife and I have had the pleasure of seeing Kinky at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia on two occasions. What a great show: music, standup, and readings. Three shows in one from a great Jewish performer.
