The Ceremony

Well, I'd like to say the wedding took place without a hitch, but I think there is no such thing as a perfect wedding.  At least not perfect in the sense that everything goes exactly according to plan.  But our ceremony was beautiful.

We had a lovely August day, that wasn't too hot, so I was thankful for that. As the bride, I don't get to see very much of the ceremony, so I'll have to wait until we get the video to get the whole effect.

Several  things made it a very "humorous" ceremony.  One was Mr. Marsten, the organist, playing the Wedding March before the bridal party had had its procession.  The whole church had stood up, but I know they all knew, "That's not right."  By this time, I was just ready to go, so I was laughing outside the doors, along with the bridesmaids and groomsmen.

When I had gotten in the Rolls at my parents' house, I had released myself from anything else that could go wrong, and was just ready to have fun. I'm happy to say that I did a fairly good job of not obsessing about things :-)

Pat (one of the hostesses), just cued Rev. Ellis to sit everyone back down, and Ruby (the other hostess) tapped Mr. Marsten and got him back on track.

I didn't feel any nerves at all until just seconds before my father and I walked in.  And they soon left once the doors were opened, and I saw all those smiling faces.

Another funny thing happened during the ceremony.  I was moving back and forth between crying while saying my vows and laughing at silly Johnie making faces at me.  During one of my crying moments, one of the groomsmen passed down a handkerchief for me to dry my eyes.  Somehow, by the time it got to Ernie, it became pat Johnie's forehead.  I had to grab it from Ernie.  When I looked at Rev. Ellis, I don't think he was amused.  :-)

Then there was the photographer slipping on the alter and Johnie rushing his cue and saying "I do" before Rev. Ellis was finished telling him what he was agreeing to.  :-)

All in all, it was a fun and FAST ceremony.  To me it just flew by, along with the rest of the day.
