Those who know me well know that I love "Martha Stewart-type" activities. (Johnie even refers to me as Martha Stewart sometimes.)
I love throwing get-togethers and I love to cook. I might as well say I collect cookbooks, I have so many by now. I love trying new recipes. I once gave a "Baked Good of the Month" present to a few friends. It allowed me to give a really nice present and to experiment with different recipes.
And if you want to make me happy, give me a decorating or remodeling magazine like "This Old House" or "Kitchens & Baths." I'm so glad we're in our new house, because now I can do a lot of those things I've seen and loved in those magazines. Things which the average landlord just isn't going to tolerate. ;-)
When I was an admissions counselor and I needed to kill time between my day appointments and my evening college fairs, I'd love going into model homes of new developments. I loved looking around the "luxury" homes the best, because you got some really great decorating ideas.
As a kid I was glued to the television or reading a book. (Some would say I still do watch too much television, but who listens to those folks.) But you know what, I think I learned a lot from television. As a child, and now, I watch a diverse mixture of both totally useless drivel and truly educational programming.
As you probably can guess, I also like "surfing the net." My first foray into the internet was actually a newsgroup called SCAA (Social Culture African American). When a few folks decided to plan a get together (reunion) to meet face to face, I became part of a email list to plan the event that then splintered into a list that just talks on a regular basis. We still have reunions, but unfortunately I haven't been able to get to the last few.
I must say however that these folks I talk to over a computer, some of whom I've never actually seen face-to-face, have become very good friends. And I don't use that term loosely. We probably know more about each other than we do about most of the folks we see everyday. If you want to know more about my scaa-list friends, come back again later. Eventually, I'll have a link with some information and pictures from some of our reunions. Plus, check out the links page and the link to Three Black Chicks. Two of the "chicks" are friends from the list.
And of course, one of my favorite activities right now is developing this webpage. I'm hooked. As you can tell from the volume of information I've typed. It has tapped into my creative side and now I will probably chronicle half my life on this thing. :-)
So don't touch that dial. |
