The Proposal

Rarely has a girl made a proposal so easy for a guy.  All he had to do was bring the ring.  (Just kidding dear.)

I had suggested earlier in the week, that we all go on a picnic that Saturday.  I had a new picnic basket I wanted to break in.  What had started as a picnic for three: me, Johnie and Danielle (Johnie's daughter), became a picnic for two.  Danielle had other plans to spend time at the beach with a friend and her family.

Well, since it was just going to be the two of us, I decided to pump up the romance meter a bit.  I got a bottle of champagne, picked up two crystal champagne flutes from my apartment, and packed a lunch of shrimp, potato salad, cheese & crackers, strawberries and grapes.

You would have thought I had known what was coming.  As we're driving through the park, he's asking for suggestions on where we should set up the picnic and I'm looking for a nice romantic spot where there aren't that many people around.

We finally settle on a spot by the lake and have lunch.  He's being VERY quiet for some reason.  The conversation didn't seem to be as easy as usual and it was full of these awkward silences.  That's SO not like us.  I was begining to wonder if he was okay.  I had to drag a conversation out of him.  I kept getting these short or one word answers.

Finally, it all became clear.  Since we were both already on the ground, no, there was no bending down on one knee.  After we finished eating lunch he pulls out the ring and pops the question.

I was in shock!  I think I must have said "Oh my God!" about a half a dozen times.  He had to remind me to put the ring on.  To which I responded, "Put it on me!"  Needless to say, I said yes.

Now let's see if I can get Johnie to "type" a few words.   NOT!   He's not into this yet.  "Resistance is futile, Johnie.  You will be assimilated."
(apparently not, 5/5/00)
