Hoover Dam shots taken during our recent trip to LasVegas for the 2000 Decorative Painting Convention

These were taken on a day trip to Hoover Dam. The bear that is in the pictures is a friends fourth grade daughters. It is part of a geography project to see where the bear can go.

Hoover Dam Plaque Plaque from Hoover Dam
Lake Mead from Nevada side A shot of Lake Mead from the Nevada Side
On the Arizona side with intake towers in the background This is Kelly's Bear with the intake towers in the background. The water for the turbines ( that produce the electricity from the dam) is brought into the dam from these towers.
Spillway on Arizona side If the water starts rising too fast in the lake and they have to let water out they can open these spillway gates. The water from here enters the large hole at the top of the picture. There is a tunnel carved through the rock of the mountain and it exits from the side of the mountain from the structure below right. Below left is the bottom of the dam and the Colorado River as it makes its way to provide irrigation and drinking water for Southern California. If you look real close , in the middle of the picture on the left is a little yellow dot. That is a big maintenance truck.
Colorado River on the other side of the Dam Water from the spillway exits here
The BEAR on the Dam on the Arizona side Kelly's Bear on the Dam on the Arizona side. Those are the Nevada side intake towers in the background on the right.
