RID

1 Samuel 7:3

And Samuel said to the whole house of Israel, "If you are returning to the Lord with all your hearts, then RID yourselves of the foreign gods and the Ashtoreths and commit yourselves to the Lord and serve him only, and he will deliver you...

[[[I feel that this verse so pertains to this topic. This verse, in my words is: “If you really want to be Sold-Out for God, then you have got to get RID of all the things in life that are taking the place of God in your life. Commit yourself to God, and not to anyone or anything else, and he will make everything else just right.”

See, my friend, an idol isn’t always just a block of wood carved into a figure that people worship. In fact, idol means, “an object of passionate devotion.” The word “idolatry” means, “extreme attachment or devotion to something.” Let me ask you this: What is your passion, devotion, and attachment? Is there anything at all in your life that goes before God? Examine your life, and see if you really do put God first (2 Corinthians 13:5).

Many people in life today put money before God. Is there any amount of money that could make you turn from your faith? If someone would give you, right now, one billion dollars if you would deny your faith in Christ, would you do it? Jesus said, “You cannot be the slave of two masters! You will like one more than the other or be more loyal to one than the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”(Matthew 6:24) Money cannot be before God.

Many other people put people before God. Whether it is their boyfriend or girlfriend or best friend or brother or sister or mom or dad. Jesus addressed this too: “If you love your father or mother or even your sons and daughters more than me, you are not fit to be my disciples.” (Matthew 10:37)

God must be first. There is no other way to steer around it. God wants you to be all for him. (Revelation 3:16) You must put God before yourself, politics, clothes, sports, and everything else. To be all for God, you must have God first. Anything you put before God is your god. Do you worship television? The phone? A famous person? Yourself? “And unless you are willing to take up your cross and come with me, you are not fit to be my disciples.” (Matthew 10:38)]]]

1 Corinthians 5.6-8
Your boasting is not good. Don't you know that a little yeast works through the whole batch of dough? Get RID of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast--as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with bread without yeast, the bread of sincerity and truth.

[[[A little evil can work its way through your whole body. If you aren’t committed totally to God, then you are hindered. You can’t experience God’s best for you. Get RID of your old life and clothe yourself with your new life. Get RID of malice and wickedness, and invite sincerity and truth.]]]

Ephesians 4.31-32
Get RID of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

[[[Once again, get RID of the bad, and be like Christ.]]]

Colossians 3.5-10
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must RID yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
[[[It is continually expressed for us to “live” changed lives since we are “changed.” (2 Corinthians 5:17) It is one thing to “be changed”, but another thing to “live” changed. We, as True Believers, have been changed, and are being “renewed” continually. We must “Live the Life.”]]]

James 1.21
Therefore, get RID of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

1 Peter 2:1
Therefore, RID yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.

[[[ Jesus said that, “... by their fruit you will recognize them.” (Matthew 7:20) The World produces bad fruit, while Believers produce good fruit. (Galatians 5:19-26 and Matthew 7:15-20) The first step to live a life all for God is by getting RID of all the bad habits and replacing these with good things. ]]]

FIX

Deuteronomy 11.18-20
FIX these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates,

[[[This passages expresses on how the Bible should surround our lives. Do you realize how important reading your Bible is in your Christian walk? Our way of listening to God is by obeying his Word, the Bible. If we FIX ourselves on his Words then we will start to change, and grow.

Ever observe a tree? What does it need to grow? It needs light. Just as the tree needs light, we do too! We are like that tree. God’s Word is like the light. Proverbs 119:105 says that God’s Word “is a lamp that gives light...”. We grow when we receive the light that God’s Word gives.]]]

Proverbs 4.25-27
Let your eyes look straight ahead, FIX your gaze directly before you. Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm. Do not swerve to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.

[[[These verses talk about looking straight ahead and focussing on the goal. Paul looked ahead. “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”(Philippians 3:14) The next verse is good too! “All of us who are mature should take such a view of things...” (Philippians 3:15) If you are really serious about growing close to God then you will look straight ahead, and not the opposite, which is back.

Ever watch a runner who runs around the track handing the baton to his teammate. Then the teammate takes off... What do you think would happen if in the middle of his run, the runner looked back? I bet you a shiny penny that he could possibly fall, or at least lose some speed because of it. Better yet, what if he looked back right before handing the baton off to his teammate? Don’t you think it would be a lot harder to do so since he can’t see his teammates hand?... It is the same with our lives. Looking back at our sin, mistakes, and missed opportunities can hinder you big time. God wants us to look ahead enthusiastically for our goal: to please God. (2 Corinthians 5:9) Striving for our goal, while looking ahead always, is the only way that we can make our lives most effective for Christ.]]]

Isaiah 46.8
Remember this, FIX it in mind, take it to heart, you rebels.

2 Corinthians 4.18
So we FIX our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
[[[Colossians 3:1-2 says, “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Use heaven to encourage you. By pleasing God (which could not be without grace) we will be rewarded heaven. Use heaven to encourage you, for in heaven we will meet all of the cool people in the Bible like Moses, David, Paul, and the greatest: JESUS! Don’t get bogged down with depression, but be encouraged by thinking about good things! (Philippians 4:8)]]]

Hebrews 3.1
Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, FIX your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess.

[[[Oh, what sweetness! We should “FIX our thoughts on Jesus!” Rebecca St. James, a Christian singer, puts it like this: “If you ever look at the Sun, and focus on it intently then whenever you look away everything else will be all blurry. You were so focused in on the Sun that the world is so hard to see. We should do the same to the “Son”, Jesus Christ. If we look at Jesus then all the things of this world will fade into the background... and eventually fade away.”]]]

Hebrews 12.1-3
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run the race marked out for us. Let us FIX our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

These are one of my favorite verses. My dear friend, if we are to live lives all for God then we must RID ourselves from all of the “Worldly things” and FIX our eyes on Jesus! Since he gave us everything he had (He died for us!), then can we not give him all of our heart, soul, mind, and possessions? If we do give God everything and truly commit to Christ, then yes, our life will be changed! You will then experience the life that a “Sold-Out Believer” has. You will experience the “abundant life” that Christ promised! (John 10:10) You will see all of the awesome things that he will do in your life, and you will find it foolish to go back to your old life.

My life has never been the same since I have started to live for God! Nothing compares. Nothing feels better.

Here is a question. Are you a Lukey? (A Luke what?) A Lukey. You may be asking: What in the world is a “Lukey”? Well, Jesus mentioned Lukies, didn’t you know that? Yup, he sure did. Lukey is short for Lukewarm. Guess what Jesus will do to each Lukey. Revelation 3:16 says, “So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” Jesus is talking about people who aren’t all for God, and aren’t all against God. They have one foot in God’s life, and the other in Satan’s deception. So, he will “spit” those people out. Just as there is nothing between heaven and hell, there is nothing, in the end, between God’s Child and The World. You are either a Believer or Not.

Why give yourself half-heartedly to God? That would be like the runner putting in only half of his strength when running in the Olympics. Why not run with all your might? It’s pointless not to. As for me? I will chose to live all for God. So, just as Paul said, I will one day be able to say:

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7)
