| Black Narcissus (Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger, 1947) 9.0
Having only seen The Red Shoes I can’t say I know lots of this amazing collaboration betwen Powell & Pressburger. But I can say that I love their approach of Cinema and their sensibility. From a subject I could only not matter. Some nuns who wants to teach and help people in an improvised monastery on the top of a high Mountain in the Himalayans at the place an indian General kept his many many wives. The films shot in color in the 1940’s are sometimes uneven and humans seem to have a yellow plastic skin. Anyhow, Powell & Pressburger maybe had some technique that the colors looked natural and warm. Black Narcissus is a nice gem that the Criterion Collection nicely conservated for our own good. Now I just want to discover more from this great duo; Tales of Hoffman, A Matter of Life and Death, and many more. Recommanded for those like me who enjoyed The Red Shoes. |
