| Burn After Reading (Joel & Ethan Coen, 2008) 6.1
After their last year near perfect hit with No Country For Old Men. I can’t deny that my expectations were very high. Being a fan of Fargo, Barton Fink, Miller’s Crossing, The Big Lebowski and even Raising Arizona I forgot the crap of Intolerable Cruelty and the not so equal but not so bad Hudsucker Proxy. I can’t hide that I’m disapointed from Burn After Reading. Well the comedy is there but the plot seems to run in every way and not always in good ones. Some moments are so hilarious and well constructed that we wish it could be like it all the way. But instead, we feel like the Coens and wife wanted to give a mouthful and a handful to the public. The performances are inequal and some moments are lost without any continuity. They elaborate on Malkovich’s character for so long in the start that we think he’ll have a more important role to play in the story. Sadly, we forget about him after 30 minutes. Let’s just say it’s a inequal melting pot of what the Coen Brothers are used to do. I only hope they’ll burn this recipe after reading it. |
