In 1988, State Rail ran a "name the train" contest for its new intercity trains.

These cars were to have a more modern styling than the current V set carriages.

There were to have been 50 carriages built. However, there was a change in government  before the contest closed.

No name was chosen. The official reason was that none of the names were suitable.

The real reason was the new government had reduced the order to 14 carriages which had to be compatible with the current V set fleet.

The 14 cars built are the DKMs and DKTs.
