The club will be planning some sort of celebration or fly-in. Probably in July.
The Fly-in was another fun time this year despite a lack of good days. It was cold, windy and NW on Wed.- Fri. But Saturday featured a slowly increasing SW wind and full sunshine. Many pilots sampled the ridge for various durations. John Sillero got the longest with 2 hrs 12 min. Thanks to all who donated to the Seascape site insurance fund. We will be able to insure Seascape for all of 2004.
Most of the active CHGA pilots went to the Brace Mtn. Fly-In on July 13, 2003. All except 2 (who shall remain nameless) got up and soared in the plentiful late afternoon thermals. We had to wait for the overdevelopment to melt away. There were about 30 PG pilots flying also. The road is as rough as ever and always needs more work. For pictures go to the Brace photos page.
The longest flight within Connecticut or originating in or ending in Connecticut by a CHGA member this year will win the XC Cup trophy. Challenge your flying skills this season by getting away from the "easy" lift at the mountain. Get high and GO. You'll learn much more and have some wonderful adventures. From March 1 to Dec 31.
Mila Jungman has built a powered winch! We would like to take it up to Brace for winch training and experimentation. We are always looking for a place to use aerotowing or winch towing equipment. If you know of an old airstrip or large field somewhere in Western Connecticut contact site coordinator Deane Williams at 860-677-7533.
