REMEMBER WHEN REPEATS AS CHAMPIONS
HOME RUN IN BOTTOM OF 7TH DEFEATS ORLAND ONE 17-16

Fighting off both the imminent rainstorm, which hit just minutes after the last play, and the assault by a valiant, rags to riches Orland Park One team, Remember When repeated as playoff champions of the South Suburban Senior Citizens Softball league Monday night in South Holland. Remember When scored 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the lead 16-15, but reported only three run scored. A discussion took place in which the score was corrected (verified by Orland). Trailing by a run, Orland scored the tying run on a grounder to first to send the game into the bottom of the seventh tied at 16. After pitcher Joe Gusic got coach Ole Passaglia to pop to short center for the first out, cleanup-hitter Jim Bush came up to bat, hitless in three trips to the plate. Bush, according to Remember When's roster, was born 55 years ago to the day. He drove the game winning pitch just over the left field fence at Gouwens to end the exciting slugfest. The game had gone back and forth each inning, though Orland could never keep the lead after Remember When's bats. With the score 2-1 Orland in the bottom of the third, the game turned into a high-scoring match with each team trading several four and five run innings. Bush's homer, one of two that RW hit over the fence, ended an awesome season for Orland One, the Rodney Dangerfield of the league. Orland began to jell mid-season and defeated all the top teams in the league, including league champs, the Legends. They also topped the Legends to advance to the championship. In action last week, Steger won the Sixties Plus Slammers championship by forfeit over the Legends. Calumet City beat Orland Park 17-16 in the consolation game. Results and pictures of all 14 teams in both leagues will be on display next week on web site, 50plus.homepage.com. This game ends a great season on a high note. Look forward to more next year.
The third place consolation game (Legends vs Park Forest) has been cancelled by agreement between the two coaches involved. Fall league starts Monday August 16 at Orland. The Blue Chips, after Being Down 8-0 in bottom of 6th and with just 2 hits and 14 outs in a row, hit a 3-run homer in 6th and rallied for 3 more in 7th but fell 2 runs short. OP1 advanced to semis after losing to Streaks twice in regular season! Orland Park Scored 15 runs and limited highest scoring team to 8 runs in biggest playoff upset so far. They have now beaten Legends, Remember When, and Silver Streaks (top three teams) in last three weeks.
