Ever since
I was a little girl, I had always been interested in exploring the far
reaches of the world. Being half-Japanese, I was able to experience foreign
cultures from an early age: I made several short trips to Japan to visit
relatives and to experience the Japanese way of life. As I grew older,
my curiosity caused me to gain interest in other countries. I knew it would
be my destiny to take part in various international programs to learn more
about the world I lived in. In 1992 my mother took me and my younger brother
to Japan for eight months (the longest I had ever spent in any country
besides the United States). In 1997 I went abroad via AFS interculural
programs to New Zealand, where I spent a year. Then from April to June
1999, I went to Nimes, France through a university program. Travelling
abroad really does become "addictive", and I encourage anyone interested
to learn more about the many programs there are available. |
