Finally the most important thing you have is the mask. This pretty much keeps you from getting you eyes shot out. There are many companies that make masks but JT is probably the most popular. The basic mask is usually the same. Made of thick rubber with a very thick strog piece of plastic for the lens. There are also upgrades for the mask such as a visor to keep the sun out of your eyes and to protect the top of the head. You can also add a no-fog lense. Having your goggles fog up in the middle of a game is one of the worst things that can happen so the no-fog is very helpful. Masks are fairly inexpensive ranging from about $20 to $60 dollars
Next you have to have some type of paintball holder or "hopper". The hopper as it's called is a storage device that connects to the top of the paintball gun. The most common is the Viewloader2000, a hopper that is see through on one end so that you can see how much paint you have left. It holds 200 paintballs. and of course there is a top of the line hopper. There is a motorized version of the view loader it runs on a 9 volt battery and rotates the balls over and over until a ball is loaded in the gun. This eliminates the problem of missfires. The basic viewloader is as cheap as 7 dollars and the motorized versions can range from 50 to 100 dollars.
1st of all you gotta have a gun. The paintball gun is sometimes called a "marker". They range from your basic "Wal-Mart" plastic gun to the top of the line computer controlled fully automatic super guns. Most average players ,like myself, opt to get a semi-automatic. The prices on these guns can vary greatly. The bottom of the line pump guns can go from as low as 39 bucks up to about a 100 dollars. The mid class semi-automatics can go from 150 dollars to the low 300's. And then u have the top of the line automatics. They can go from the low 400's all the way to the top of the line Angel Eclipse with a ticket price of just around $1,650, a mainly tournament gun. Well now you have the basic low down on the paintball gun, your most essential weapon in the sport of paintball.
Next in line you must have a source of power. There are two types of power for the paintball gun. For your pump and semi-automatic guns you are going to use Co2 (compressed carbon dioxide). This is stored in a aluminum or cromoly tank. The tanks vary from the small 12 gram powerlets to a 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, 20, and 24 ounce refillable tanks. These can cost anywhere from 49 cents for the 12 grams. to about 54 dollars for the 24 ounce. For the higher end automatics Co2 isnt enough power. You have to use Nitrogen. The Nitrogen tanks are larger, more expensive (around $350) and more unstable. That is the basics of air aupply
