What is Rugbyfest
Rugbyfest is an annual collegiate rugby tournament put on by the SFA Rugby Football Club, in Nacogdoches, TX. It is hosted in the Fall, sometime at the end of October or beginning of Novemeber. Teams from all over Texas and Louisianna come and play and party and have a great time. Traditionally the weekend begins with a welcome party, Friday night, usually at a local bar or club. Play begins Saturday morning and lasts until the afternoon. Then the we put on the BIG party, let our hair down and have a GREAT time. The next day's games begin a little later in the day (for obvious reasons) beginning with consolation brackets and ending with the championship game and then awards ceremony. Usually trophies are awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams, and to the Consolation team. Also MVP of the tournament is awarded, to a player who distinguishes himself on the field in the referees opinion. Commerative shirts are sold throughtout the tournament traditionally in the colors of blue and grey or white and costing about $15 a piece. We invite any and all teams interested to come and join in the fun. If you are a member of a rugby team outside of the Texas/Lousianna area and would like to participate, contact one of our officers. For teams traveling long distances we have been known make special accomodations or allowances.
Entering
Rugbyfest is open to all teams wishing to participate. The usual entry fee is around $250 for a team. Rugbyfest is a 15 on 15 tournament but teams wishing to play down or try and pick up "whores" to play with them are welcome. Provided they can meet the entry fee and have near 15 players, or significant reason to believe they can fill out a side for there games. Past years tournaments indicate teams can usually expect at least 3 or 4 games in the tournament depending on how many teams enter the tournament. Past champions have been known to play 6 or 7 games in the two day tournament.
History
Rugbyfest was first held in 1988. It is a collegiate tournament for all teams interested. It helps build funds for the coming year and allows us to test our skills against some great teams. Not to mention meet ruggers from all over and make friends and memories. Of course, to show our appreciation to all our guests, we throw a great party during the tournament and have a great time. Rugbyfest is not like other tournaments in that it is ONLY collegiate teams. Not a mens tournament with a collegiate division secondary. We invite all college teams to interested to come join the fun. (Yes, i know this isn't really alot of history. I'm working on that.)
