About WARA

The Welsh Amateur Rowing Association, The Amateur Rowing Association and The Sports Council of Wales have put together a plan that will enable Welsh Rowing to progress. After a very successful Commonwealth Regatta where Wales achieved medals in both the men's and the women's events it was decided by WARA to put in place a plan to endeavour to achieve higher honours for Welsh Rowing.

WARA have now put in place a complete system with a National High Performance Coach, section Co-ordinators (Men's, Women's, Junior Men, Junior Women) and a full open system for trailing . The team has a full events programme that enables any athlete that is eligible by Welsh grandparent or by residency to be seen and try to row for Wales. WARA have also put in place an event structure that we hope will enable the top athletes to get the advice and coaching that they require to get the Welsh Rowing Team the future successes that all those involved in Welsh rowing would like to see.

We are currently talent searching for athletes that wish to row at international level for Wales and maybe even further honours for the Great Britain Team. WARA's International section have some specific aims.

  1. To endeavour to improve Welsh rowing performances at the Home Countries International.
  2. To build a team to improve on the successes on the last Commonwealth Regatta.
  3. To help athletes with the grit, determination, perseverance and talent to represent Welsh Rowing at the Great Britain Team level at World and Olympic Regattas.
This means that we are now building teams at Junior, Under 23 and Senior levels. The use of this web site is to impart information for all those wishing to be involved in our system and wish to aspire to Rowing for Wales.
