A Friday to forget …

Dear All Thinking I must share this experience and post some pictures for all Bonanza's pilots.

Aircraft Beechcraft Bonanza A36 1998 S/N E-3193 (126.6 TT) Engine Teledyne Continental Special Edition IO-550B39B S/N 684022 (101.6 TT) Propeller McCauley D3A32C409-C S/N 980967 (126.6 TT)

Last Friday December 3 with a friend and with two North American citizens started a local fly over the east side of Santiago city, La Dehesa. We started from Tobalaba the main civil airport in Santiago, SCTB (2.120 fts ASL with an OAT 26 C°) at 19:15 PM. The check before take-off was normal, all the instruments were in the green section and magnetos check was perfect, no differences. After approximate 6 minutes, a very small knocking started, that noise with the ANR phones it was imperceptible, after that situation, uncomfortable for my, I preferred to gain altitude, claiming 300 FPM to 6.500 fts ASL. I thought that was something wrong on the air-condition system. Usually I fly this zone at 4.000 or 4.500 fts ASL, and I started to keep special attention to the JPI 700. All cylinders showed normal range operations, EGT 1.420 F° and CHT around 300 F°, I think everything is recorded on the instrument. Established at 6.500 fts ASL flying with lest than 60% of power, suddenly a strong noise and enormous shaking started from the engine and the co-pilot and I noted immediately that we have lost the engine, and the next step is was only to put the aircraft on the ground safety. Fortunately we glide 85 kts and I made one of my best landing with the engine completely stopped in Tobalaba airport  A DEAD STICK LANDING (I have flying hang gliders for more than 12 years and believe me that I feel very safety flying with no engine) and the A36 has a great handling and a very predictable behavior. My father and I bought this brand new aircraft in USA this October, to fly with the family, before leaving The States we made an annual type inspection, we install some co-pilot instruments and a Vortex Generators Kit, with an experimented pilot, my father and a friend we had a great trip from Wichita to Santiago the Chile (36 hrs). After that we made some flights in Chile, around 18 hours, tree days ago the Raytheon representative in Santiago made a 50 hrs. inspection, changing oil, filters and so on.

My family and I are very disappointed with this situation and we will ask explanations to the Raytheon factory. We thinking that we bought the best and the safeties single engine aircraft in the world.
