Labcoat Mystery Solved!

It was the 20th of October, and it was Carl's senior year. The leaves on the trees had all turned various colors, and had started to fall off. Carl had always loved this time of year because of the vast rainbow of colors all around him, and it was still warm enough to not wear a jacket. As he marvelled at the leaves before school, he saw something in the corner of his eye. He quickly turned his head in the direction of the thing he saw, but it was gone. He thought nothing of it and headed into school.

After a morning full of classes, Carl headed to his locker to drop his books off and head to the lunch room for some bland lunch. Just as he shut his locker, he again saw the same thing out of the corner of his eye! He quickly turned around, and managed to see the figure of a man quickly turn and move out of sight. Carl ran to the spot where he saw the figure and peered down the hallway, but saw nothing out of the ordinary. This was getting weird.

This strange occurrence was on Carl's mind for the rest of the day. Why would someone be after him? Who would be after him?? The bell rang, signaling the end of the school day, and Carl headed to his locker to drop his books off. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the same figure staring at him from behind a corner at the instersection of the hallways. He knew the figure was there, but kept about his business. Just before he left, he snapped a picture of the figure (without the flash because it was quite bright in the hallway) with his camera, and left.

Carl retreated to the Stock Room, and scanned the picture into his super-computer. After zooming in and clarifying the picture, he ran it through the F.B.I. database for a name and address. He found it out after about fifteen minutes, and wrote it down on a piece of paper. By some stroke of luck, Carl lived fairly near this shadowy person, and only needed to take public transportation to get there.

He walked up the steps to the house, and rang the doorbell. About 30 seconds passed, and the door opened, revealing the man Carl had shot in the picture.

"So, you've found me. I must say, you did a lot faster than I had expected."

"Okay, why have you been tailing me all day? Do I know you??"

"You could say so, Labcoat Man!!"

"What??!!???," Carl exclaimed in a bewildered fashion

"Didn't you ever wonder how the Labcoat and Goggles got into your locker?

"How'd YOU know about that???"

"I'm the one who put them there!

"Okay mr. Smarty Pants, if you put them there..... What does the symbol that I use to transform look like?"

"It's an Erlyn Meyer flask and a volumetric flask in an X pattern. They both appear to be about one-third full of liquid."

"Hmm.. seems like you did put them there....."

"Yes, let me explain. My name is Michael...."

Michael, about 45, started to tell how he was the first Labcoat Man. While working in the lab one day when he was about 27, an experiment went wrong, and covered his labcoat with a bunch of chemicals and radiation. This combination did something to the labcoat, which enhanced the wearer's mind capacity. He experimented with the labcoat for many weeks and found out everything it could do. The symbol on his labcoat also mysteriously revealed itself after he found out the garment's abilities. He also recounted that on that fateful day, his goggles also got hit with a mixture of chemiclas and radiation, but in different amounts. He experimented with those, and found out that the goggles improved the wearer's physical properties. He became the first Labcoat Man, thwarted the criminal element, and kept it a secret.

He also went on to explain that although the goggles and labcoat improved the wearer's abilities, it only did so much. Michael had noticed that he didn't have the agility and speed as he had had when he was younger. He surveyed many individuals, and chose Carl to be the next Labcoat Man.

"So, there you have it Carl. I chose you because you were a good student, and that you have a good record with doing good and not evil"

"Michael, meet me after school tomorrow, at my locker"

"Okay, I'll be there"

Michael met Carl at the appointed time, and Carl took him to the Stock Room. Michael was amazed at all of the equipment the Stock Room contained. Carl showed Michael the improvements he had made with Labcoat Man. Michael was astonished with the Labmask and the Labgauntlet because it greatly aided Carl When he was foiling the mischievous deeds of those that sought to do wrong.

"There's just one thing else that I want to do, but I don't have the technical know-how to accomplish it."

"And what's that Carl? You seem to have everything you need right here."

"Yeah, but what can I do if the criminal takes off in a car? I can't run THAT fast... I have an idea for a jetpack I would call the Labwings"

"ah, yes... I see your point... I know a little about mechanics, and what I don't know, you'd probably be able to find on the internet..."

So, Michael and Carl, with the help of the super-computer made a complete plan to build a jetpack. The jetpack would be controlled by the Labgauntlet in every way, and Carl could summon it at anytime by pressing a secret sequence of buttons on the Labgauntlet. Then they sent the plans to Carl's greatful friend, Bill Gates. In about 3 weeks, the Labwings arrived via UPS.

Carl and Michael both marvelled at the sleek design of the Labwings. It was designed for minimum air resistance, and could fly about fifteen minutes with a full tank of fuel. Michael gave Carl a vial of Additive X, and told him how to make it. Additive X would make the fuel last for two hours instead of fifteen minutes, and it was one hundred percent environmentally safe! Carl fueled up the labwings, and added Additive X. Then he put them on the special launching pad and went outside some distance away, became Labcoat Man, and summoned the Labwings. As soon as Labcoat Man saw the labwings heading toward him in the sky, he started running in the same direction that the Labwings were flying. Right before the Labwings were on top of him, he jumped up into the air, and the Labwings liked with the special adaptor strapped to Labcoat Man's back. Labcoat Man flew off into the sky, trying various manuvres with the Labwings with the aid of the Labgauntlet. Being satisfied with the jetpack, he flew fairly close to the ground, and punched in the special sequence to disconnect from the Labwings. He landed safely, then returned to the Stock Room and reported his results to Michael.

"Excellent! You know, we made a good team. If you ever need help, you know where I am. See you later Labcoat Man!"

"See you later Michael!"

Carl saw Michael off, then returned to the Stock Room to make up a supply of Additive X. After he had finished, He went back up to his room and looked at the calendar.

"Hmmm.... November 17th...... What is going on on November 17th..... Oh no! An English exam!!! NOOOO!!!!!!!!!!"
