ECOS EARTH DAY '98

Earth Day is Wednesday, April 22nd and ECOS has a special Earth Day project.
It’s called “Earth Day Groceries”.

Here’s how it works. A grocery store provides blank paper grocery bags to students, who then decorate the bags with “Save The Earth” slogans. The bags are then returned to the grocery store where they are used to pack groceries for shoppers on Earth Day.

The campaign was started in 1994 by students at Arbor Heights elementary school in Seattle, Washington. Last year, over 315 schools in the United States and Canada helped decorate 121,049 bags. This year, Sycamore School will be first school in Indianapolis to participate in the campaign. Five hundred grocery bags are being donated to ECOS by Kroger food stores. The bags will be distributed at the Kroger grocery store located at 86th street and Township Line Road.
Since 500 bags is a lot of bags, ECOS' sponsors, Senora Thompson and Ms. Vieth, have suggested that we ask other Sycamore students in grades 3 through 8 if they want to volunteer to help us. Several after school bag-decorating sessions will be scheduled for the first week after Sycamore students return from Spring break.
