COMING EVENTS

Bonita River

Thursday, May 14, 2009

An outing to the Loma Grande and Cherry Creek road area should scare up some transient birds. The group will leave at 7:00 AM from the parking lot on Ski Run road, just to the West of Brewer’s Shell Station. As usual do not forget binoculars, water and snacks.

Thursday, June 4, 2009

Another field trip will be to explore Nogal Canyon from Nogal to Bonito Lake (if the forest has not been closed). The group will meet at the Ski Run Road parking lot at 6:30 AM. As usual, drinks, snacks and binocs are a must.

AND, YET, ANOTHER OUTING!

Thursday, July 16, 2009

It has been a while since the Lincoln County Bird Club members have travelled to the Three Rivers area. The birding can really be good this time of year. A group will leave from the Lawrence Bros. parking lot at 6:00 AM and travel through Tularosa on the way down and come back through Carrizozo. A trip to Jake’s Spring could turn up some Great Horned Owls. Do not forget water and snacks.

Thursday, August 13, 2009

A trip down Karr Canyon to High Rolls should be productive. The Red-faced warbler has been seen at the picnic ground there in the past. A group will meet at the Beall’s parking lot at 6:00 AM and car-pool from there. Do not forget your essential supplies; and, as always, bring water and snacks.

At a future time, if there are flowers to view, a wildflower walk will be scheduled. A Lincoln County Bird Club member always makes these trips interesting, watch for it.

Dates to be announced.

FESTIVAL OF CRANES

Bosque del Apache Refuge

There are four major components to the Festival: tours, lectures, exhibits and the Refuge. Tours are offered to introduce you to areas and topics not commonly available during the year. Birders will be out from dawn to dusk on and off of the Bosque. Lectures are offered for a variety of wildlife related subjects. Most lectures are given at the Macey Center in Socorro. Some lectures are workshops in photography, bird identification and wildlife painting. Workshops are conducted in the field or special facilities. On Saturday and most of Sunday the main Promenade, at the Refuge, will be filled with exhibits and demonstrations. This is where you will see animals up close, very close. Animal rescue groups will display mammals and birds along the perimeter of the Promenade. If you ever wanted a full head photo of a Flammulated Owl, this may be your only opportunity. In the Visitor Center and the art and exhibitors tents, you will find educational activities as well as items for sale. For more information, go to ww.friendsofthebosque.org/crane/.
