A NEW STORY ABOUT THE CIRCUS

JUST FOR FUN

The circus has come to town, and Christopher and Cameron are going to it, with Mom and Dad. "This is going to be a lot of fun", Christopher told Cameron. Cameron wanted to know, what was the circus? They asked Mom to explain it. "The circus is filled with great things to see, elephants, tigers that do tricks, tightrope walkers jugglers, clowns and a lot more", she explained. The boys wanted to know everything they could about the circus. Dad told them he would explain all about it after they ate all of their suppers.

Mom was busy cooking supper and Dad was washing the car, so the boys spent the time until dinner, looking at the circus ad in the newspaper. The ad had pictures of animals, clowns and a lady standing on the back of a horse. The ad also showed an elephant standing on it's front legs, with it's tail in the air! They wondered how close the animals would be. "Wouldn't it be great if we saw some clowns having fun and acting silly", sais Cameron. Christopher and Cameron had a lot of questions for Dad. The boys ate without saying a word and finished dinner in record time.

The first thing they wanted to know was when will they go to the circus? Dad told them it would be Saturday afternoon. Today was Wednesday, so they had to wait for three days. Mom and Dad sat in the living room with Christopher and Cameron and began to tell them about the cicus.

Mom talked about her first visit to the circus when she was a little girl. her favorite memory was about the lady who rode on the horse standing up. Mom remembered it like it was last year. The lady was so beautiful with her costume and could ride a horse better than anyone else.

Dad remembered the lions in a big cage and a brave man that was inside with them. He had a long whip that went crack, snap, in the air and the Lions would do anything he wanted them to do. The lions jumped through a large hoop that was on fire. They snarled and roared at the Lion tamer. Once, a Lion came real close to him and swung a great big paw with sharp claws. The man snapped the whip with a loud noise and the Lion jumped back, still roaring at him. The Lion act was scary and everyone clapped with their hands and cheered when he made the Lions go back into their cages. He was very brave indeed.

Mom and Dad, told them about the performers up high on swings that could jump from one swing to another. They rode a bicycle on a thin wire, way up near the top of the circus tent.

Christopher and Cameron, talked about the circus every day until it was Saturday and time to go. When they arrived and were walking into the circus tent. They saw a bunch of clowns changing a flat tire on a clown car that is used in the show. It was a funny sight to see them working on the car with their big feet and funny faces. One of the clowns said to Christopher, "I hope we get the tire fixed in time for the show". We have another car but it is too small for us and with that he went back to work, fixing the tire.

Mom, Dad and the kids were early for the show and had time to walk around the circus. They saw elephants eating hay, jugglers practicing and lots of circus people working around getting ready for the big show. Christopher and Cameron thought this was exciting and they were very happy. They saw a lady painting clown faces on real clowns for the show. They saw them watching and asked if they would like their faces painted also? Mom said it was okay and before the show started they looked like real clowns in the circus.

On the way into the circus tent, Dad bought each boy some pink cotton candy on a stick. They found their seats and waited for the show to begin. This was very exciting for everyone.

The show started with a great noise from the circus band and a parade of all the performers and horses and elephants. Two jugglers were tossing balls back and forth to each other. At the end of the parade came the clowns, with silly faces and waving to the crowds but some clowns were not happy but looked a little sad. "Why aren't those clowns happy?" asked Cameron. No one knew why the clowns were sad. After the parade was over a man in a red coat and a tall black hat came into the center ring and said in a loud and thunderous voice, "Ladies and gentlemen and children of all ages, welcome to the greatest show on earth".

He told them about all the wonderful things they would see today. He said there was one thing that needed to be fixed before the show started. The clowns have a flat tire on their big circus car. They have a small circus car, but all the clowns are too big to fit in it. The show had to have a circus car in it and they are looking for two small clowns to be in the show. The clowns went into the audience to look for two small clowns. Christopher and Cameron jumped up and said "We are clowns. Can we be in the show?" The clown asked Dad if it was okay for them to be in the circus for a day. Dad gave permission and away went Christopher and Cameron to be clowns in the circus. They were very excited to be in the show.

The circus car was very small and was only big enough for the two boys to fit in. They had to hold the cotton candy out the window and everyone was laughing because the other clowns were trying to eat it. The car had pedals in it for both boys and they were pedalling as fast as they could. Christopher was doing the steering. The little car would go in and out of the ring, up the aisles to the seats and then back down again. The really funny part was Christopher and Cameron wanted to eat the cotton candy also and would poke their heads out of the car to get a bite. They did this while pedalling and steering around the circus. One time a clown sneaked up behind them and took a bite of Cameron's cotton candy. "Hey, you silly clown" said Cameron. With that they started chasing the clown around the circus beeping the tiny horn as they went along. The whole circus roared with laughter. The boys were a big hit and made everyone happy. They became the stars of the circus.

After the circus was over, many performers in the show and other kids came over to them and thanked Christopher and Cameron. Some people asked for their autographs. They were stars! What a wonderful day everyone had. The boys couldn't wait to get home and tell the other kids about their first wonderful day at the circus.
