On A More Personal Note...

Ok...here it goes: I'm Kristina aka Sweetz and Daze as in like Daisy. I'm 18 with short brown hair and eyes, and besides trying to help the environment, I also adore sports and most types of music, mainly rap, dance and soul ie. BoyzIIMen, Maestro, Jewel, a lot of one hit wonders, and a crazy group I discovered... Corky and the Juice Pigs! Most people would describe me as crazy, stubborn, and occasionally annoying, but I just don't give a damn what people think of me:) Let's just say that I'm.... unique. I became a vegetarian for mainly health reasons on Jan. 1, 1998 after almost completing a semester at the Bronte Creek Project, an environmental leadership program. Before beginning this program, I was like, "What?! We can't eat meat at all here?" Yeah, life without meat seemed unbearable, but I tried keeping an open mind and after learning about all the issues I quickly changed my mind. Being in an environment where everyone supported my decision to become a vegetarian, the transition was really easy. My parents were really the only ones that were against my decision, in fact, they still hate it, although they're becoming more used to it. The worst part is finding food around the house!

I think the problem with most people is the lack of knowledge and the fear of finding out something horrible about something they have been doing all their life. When I started telling a few friends of mine what goes into McDonald's hamburgers, they got a horrified look on their faces and didn't want to listen. Others pledged not to eat a McDonald's hamburger ever again. I'm not trying to tell people to become a vegetarian and use only environmentally-friendly and animal-friendly products... although that would be nice:) but just try to cut down as much as possible! It took me 4 months to become a vegetarian, but it may take others a few years. But each individual step brings you closer to a healthier body, and cutting down even by 25% of your normal meat consumption helps the world a lot over time. So think about. It's your decision, and no one can take that away from you. And don't think that one person can't make a difference, because it starts with you!

P.S. If you really want to see what I look like, well, 2 years ago anyways click here. Here's one from last semester, I look even geekier. It's of me beside a tree I planted for Earthweek in the back of my school. Click here to see it.
