These images are a small sample taken from a forthcoming book on the role of birds in Balinese culture. They represent a variety of art forms, including dance, mask-carving, sculpture and painting.
The Balinese make little distinction between mythology and reality, so it appropriate that the images shown here also include both real and mythical birds.
